UPSC Mains 2026 Hit Ratio: Essay & GS Papers 1-4 | InsightsIAS

Every year after the UPSC Mains examination, one question naturally comes up among aspirants:
how relevant was the preparation to what UPSC actually asked?

For UPSC Mains 2026, we went back to our test series, Secure answer-writing questions, I-WIL, IPM/YLM and Core Batch material and compared them with the questions that appeared in the examination. We have already published the paper-wise comparisons for Essay and GS Papers 1, 2, 3 and 4.

This page brings all of those comparisons together in one place.

A note on the term “Hit Ratio”

We have deliberately avoided reducing the entire exercise to one large percentage. Not every overlap is the same. Some questions show a close question-level match, while others reflect broader thematic or conceptual preparation. That is why the detailed paper-wise articles retain the nature of overlap and show the actual UPSC question beside the earlier InsightsIAS question.

What We Take Away from UPSC Mains 2026

Across papers, one pattern stands out clearly: UPSC continues to reward preparation that is broad enough to handle new framing, but focused enough to respond to a precise demand.

For us, that reinforces the value of regular answer writing, serious test practice and connecting current developments with the static syllabus. The purpose of a good test series is not to reproduce the examination paper in advance. It is to make the actual paper feel less unfamiliar when it finally arrives.

That is also why we have published the complete paper-wise comparisons. We would rather show the questions and let aspirants judge the relevance than rely on a single promotional number.
