There comes a point in every serious UPSC aspirant’s preparation when reading more is no longer enough. You know the syllabus. You have made notes. You have attended classes. What is InsightsIAS CORE BATCH?

We are pleased to announce the return of one of our most sought after initiatives, the CORE BATCH, a programme that has been part of the UPSC journeys of several top rankers since its inception in 2014.

The philosophy behind Core Batch is simple: you improve by doing. Reading is important, but the UPSC examination ultimately asks you to perform. That performance requires practice, discipline, speed, recall, judgement and the ability to communicate what you know within a strict time limit.

CORE BATCH therefore places intensive practice at the centre of preparation, with mentorship provided directly by Vinay Sir, supported by our Core faculty members and mentors.

The central idea

Study. Write. Review. Improve. Repeat.
The objective is not to wait until you feel perfectly prepared. It is to become better through regular, timed and disciplined practice.

Why is CORE BATCH Different?

The real difficulty in UPSC preparation is rarely the lack of information. Most serious aspirants already have books, notes, current affairs material and access to classes. The difficulty is converting all of that knowledge into marks.

CORE BATCH is built around intensive and regular answer writing under timed conditions. The emphasis is on incremental improvement. You may not write the perfect answer on Day 1, and you are not expected to. What matters is whether Answer 20 is better than Answer 1, whether Test 10 is better than Test 1, and whether you can continue improving until writing a full paper becomes natural.

Practice is not the final stage of preparation.

For UPSC, practice has to become part of preparation itself.

Over the years, Core Batch students have spoken about improvements in answer structure, speed, time management, Essay performance and overall GS scores after sustained practice. The purpose of the programme is to create the discipline required to move from knowing an answer to actually writing a good answer within the examination hall.

Should You Join CORE BATCH 2027?

You may be wondering, “Can I start writing answers when I have not completed every last topic in the syllabus?”

That question keeps many aspirants waiting for the perfect day. They decide they will begin answer writing after finishing one more book, one more subject or one more round of revision. Weeks pass, and practice keeps getting postponed.

The truth is that feeling 100% prepared may never happen.

If you have completed the UPSC syllabus at least once, irrespective of your present level in MCQ solving or answer writing, and you are serious about UPSC CSE 2027, CORE BATCH is designed to push you towards a more practice oriented form of preparation.

CORE BATCH is especially relevant if:

You understand the syllabus but struggle to convert knowledge into answers.

You keep postponing answer writing because you do not feel fully prepared.

You have written Mains before and want to improve your GS or Essay performance.

You need discipline, deadlines and a serious peer environment.

You want regular practice along with mentorship and faculty guidance.

You are ready to replace passive preparation with active performance.

A Legacy of UPSC Rankers from CORE BATCH

Since its inception in 2014, the Core Batch has been associated with the preparation journeys of several successful UPSC candidates. Their experiences repeatedly highlight disciplined testing, answer writing practice, feedback, time management and mentorship.

What Toppers Tell Us About Answer Writing

There is a common thread running through many Core Batch success stories: writing under pressure becomes easier only after you repeatedly practise under pressure.

Nandini K R, AIR 1 in CSE 2016, described how repeated timed tests helped improve both her speed and her ability to complete the paper without diluting answer quality.

Sachin Gupta, AIR 3 in CSE 2017, spoke about being pushed to write tests in a disciplined manner and gradually understanding what to do, what not to do and how to approach an answer.

Jeydev C S, AIR 5 in CSE 2019, made timed answer writing a central part of his Mains preparation and gradually moved towards completing full length papers.

These experiences capture what CORE BATCH is ultimately about: turning answer writing from an occasional exercise into an examination skill.

Mentorship That Keeps Your Preparation Moving

A test alone does not transform preparation. What matters is what you understand from the test, how quickly you identify your mistakes, whether you correct them and whether you remain consistent enough to repeat the process.

CORE BATCH 2027 combines intensive practice with mentorship from Vinay Sir, Core faculty members and mentors to help serious aspirants remain focused on improvement instead of falling back into endless reading and postponement.
