What It Is?
- The E-Commerce Council of India (ECCI) is a dedicated, first-of-its-kind national industry council established to represent, unify, and advance the interests of India’s digital commerce landscape. It acts as an umbrella body bridging private digital platforms, logistics firms, payment providers, and government regulators.
Nodal Body: Founded under the aegis of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
Objectives: The core objective of the ECCI is to present a single, common voice for the digital trade ecosystem during policy conversations with the government.
Key Functions of the Council:
- Targeted Policy Advocacy: Serves as a structured interface with policymakers, offering research and industry data to shape regulations around digital payments, consumer protection, and online commerce.
- Cross-Border Trade & Logistics Expansion: Focuses on simplifying cross-border e-commerce, helping Indian brands, exporters, and MSMEs expand their reach into international markets using global supply networks.
- MSME Enablement & Digital Onboarding: Develops frameworks to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) transition to digital models, giving them direct access to national and global supply chains.
- Fostering AI & Tech Integration: Sets guidelines and shares best practices for adopting cutting-edge technologies, such as AI-powered commerce, quick-commerce logistics, and digital payment infrastructure.
- Hosting the Indian E-Commerce Summit (IECS): Plans to host an annual national summit to bring together government representatives, tech founders, academic experts, and international partners to review digital trade developments.
