Question 1 of 5
1. Question
Directions for the following items: (1-5)
Read the following passage and answer the items that follow. Your answers to these items should be based on the passage only.
Mahatma Gandhi believed that industrialization was no answer to the problems that plague the mass of India’s poor and that villagers should be taught to be self-sufficient in food, weave their own cloth from cotton and eschew the glittering prizes that the 20th century so temptingly offers. Such an idyllic and rural paradise did not appear to those who inherited the reins of political power.
Mahatma Gandhi’s views opposed industrialization of villages because
Correct
Correct Answer: D
Explanation:
According to the passage, Gandhiji always believed in self-sufficiency and opposed
Industrialization. Passage compared the village life to rural-paradise and extremely
happier if it is not industrialized. So industrialization destroys the beauty of villagers
and undermines the advantages of self-sufficiency.
Hence the correct answer is D.

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
A can do a bit of work in 25 days which B can complete in 20 days. Both together labor for 5 days and afterward A leaves off. How long will B take to complete the remaining work?
Correct
Solution:- D
(A+B)’s 5 days work = 5(1/25+1/20) = (5*9/100) = 9/20
Remaining work = (1-9/20) = 11/20
1/20 work is finished by B in 1 day
11/20 work is finished by B in (1*20*11/20) = 11 days
Hence, option (d) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution:- D
(A+B)’s 5 days work = 5(1/25+1/20) = (5*9/100) = 9/20
Remaining work = (1-9/20) = 11/20
1/20 work is finished by B in 1 day
11/20 work is finished by B in (1*20*11/20) = 11 days
Hence, option (d) is correct.

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
In a race of 600m, A can beat B by 60m and in a race of 500m, B can beat C by 50m. By how many meters will A beat C in a race of 400m?
Correct
Solution- D
If A runs 600m, B runs 540 m.
If A runs 400m, B runs (540/600*400) m = 360m
When B runs 500m, C runs 450m.
When B runs 360 m, C runs (450/500*360) m = 324 m.
∴ A beats C by (400-324) m =76 m.
Hence, option (d) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution- D
If A runs 600m, B runs 540 m.
If A runs 400m, B runs (540/600*400) m = 360m
When B runs 500m, C runs 450m.
When B runs 360 m, C runs (450/500*360) m = 324 m.
∴ A beats C by (400-324) m =76 m.
Hence, option (d) is correct.

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
A boat travels 32 km upstream and 60 km downstream in 9 hr. Also it travels 40 km upstream and 84 km downstream in 12 hrs. Find the speed of the boat in still water and rate of the current (in Km/hr).
Correct
Solution: A
Let, upstream speed = u km/hr
Downstream speed = d km/hr
32/u + 60/d = 9 (Time = Distance/Speed)
Simlarly,
40/u + 84/d = 12
32x + 60y = 9 …(i) (Assuming 1/u = x and 1/d = y)
40x + 84y = 12 …(ii)
(Equation(ii) * 4) – (Equation (i)*5), we get,
y = 1/12. So, x = 1/8
Hence, downstream speed = 12 km/hr
Upstream speed = 8 km/hr
So,
Speed of the boat in still water = 1/2*(12+8) = 10 km/hr
Speed of the current = 1/2*(12 – 8) = 2 km/hr
Hence, option (a) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution: A
Let, upstream speed = u km/hr
Downstream speed = d km/hr
32/u + 60/d = 9 (Time = Distance/Speed)
Simlarly,
40/u + 84/d = 12
32x + 60y = 9 …(i) (Assuming 1/u = x and 1/d = y)
40x + 84y = 12 …(ii)
(Equation(ii) * 4) – (Equation (i)*5), we get,
y = 1/12. So, x = 1/8
Hence, downstream speed = 12 km/hr
Upstream speed = 8 km/hr
So,
Speed of the boat in still water = 1/2*(12+8) = 10 km/hr
Speed of the current = 1/2*(12 – 8) = 2 km/hr
Hence, option (a) is correct.

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
If the sum of the ages of father and son is 100years. The ratio of father and son before the period of 5 years is 2:1. Find out the ratio of ages which would be after the period 10 year.
Correct
Solution: D
If the age of father at the present time = x years
His son age at the present time = (100-x) years.
x-5 / (100-x-5) = 2/1 ⇒ (x-5) = 2(95-x) ⇒ 3x = 195 ⇒ x = 65
Ratio of the ages of man and son after 10 years = (65+10)/(35+10)= 75/45 = 5/3 = 5:3
Hence, option (d) is correct.
Incorrect
