About the KMTTP:

RouteKolkata (India) – Sittwe (Myanmar) – Paletwa (Myanmar) – India-Myanmar border
ChallengesThe region around Paletwa faces challenges due to conflicts involving the Chin and Rohingya communities, as well as militant groups like the Arakan Army and the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army.
SignificanceReduces distance from Kolkata to Sittwe by approximately 1328 km. Provides an alternative route to connect northeast and mainland India. Reduces dependence on the narrow Siliguri corridor for transporting goods
StatusUnder construction. 98% of the project is complete. Sittwe Port was made operational last year (2023)
