Question 8 of 10
8. Question
1 pointsWhich of the following statements is NOT a potential benefit of using fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs?
Correct
Ans: (c )
Explanation:
- Fixed-dose combination (FDC) refers to a pharmaceutical formulation that contains two or more active ingredients combined in a fixed ratio in a single dosage form. Each of the active ingredients in the combination maintains a constant dose.
- FDCs are commonly used in various medical fields, including the treatment of infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and other health issues.
- While FDCs offer several advantages, including improved adherence and potentially enhanced effectiveness, they do not necessarily reduce the risk of drug interactions. In fact, combining multiple medications can actually increase the potential for interactions, even if the individual drugs have been deemed safe on their own. This is because interactions can occur even between drugs with low individual risks, and FDCs introduce additional variables that can affect how medications are absorbed, metabolized, and excreted.
