New Initiative: Revision Through MCQs (RTM) – Revision of Current Affairs Made Interesting
As revision is the key to success in this exam, we are starting a new initiative where you will revise current affairs effectively through MCQs (RTM) that are solely based on Insights Daily Current Affairs.
These questions will be different than our regular current affairs quiz. These questions are framed to TEST how well you have read and revised Insights Current Affairs on daily basis.
We will post nearly 10 MCQs every day which are based on previous day’s Insights current affairs. Tonight we will be posting RTM questions on the Insights current affairs of October 3, 2019.
The added advantage of this initiative is it will help you solve at least 20 MCQs daily (5 Static + 5 CA Quiz + 10 RTM) – thereby helping you improve your retention as well as elimination and guessing skills.

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
1 pointsRegarding the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which of the following statement is accurate?
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- S1: This statement is incorrect. The LHC is located underground, spanning the border between Switzerland and France. It’s situated about 100 meters below ground to reduce background radiation and other interference.
- S2: This statement is incorrect. While the LHC allows scientists to study a wide range of phenomena, its primary purpose is not the study or simulation of black holes. It aims to explore fundamental particles and their interactions.
- S3: This statement is incorrect. While protons are indeed the primary particles accelerated in the LHC, other heavy ions, such as lead ions, can also be accelerated for specific experiments.
- S4: This statement is correct. One of the most significant achievements associated with the LHC is the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. The Higgs boson is a fundamental particle predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics, and its discovery confirmed a crucial aspect of this theoretical framework. The experiments conducted at the LHC, particularly at the ATLAS and CMS detectors, played a central role in this groundbreaking discovery.

9. Question
1 pointsWhich statement accurately describes cyanobacteria?
Correct
Ans: (c )
Explanation:
- S1: This statement is incorrect. Cyanobacteria are not fungi. They are a distinct group of prokaryotic organisms, belonging to the domain Bacteria.
- S2: This statement is incorrect. Cyanobacteria are primarily autotrophic, meaning they can produce their own food through photosynthesis. They have the ability to capture light energy and convert it into chemical energy.
- S3: This statement is correct. Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic prokaryotic organisms. They are unique in that they can perform oxygenic photosynthesis, similar to plants. This process involves the conversion of carbon dioxide and water into glucose, releasing oxygen as a byproduct.
- S4: This statement is incorrect. Cyanobacteria are not animals, and they are not microscopic animals. They are a group of photosynthetic bacteria that can be found in various environments, including aquatic environments and soil. They play a crucial role in nitrogen fixation and contribute to soil fertility indirectly through their ecological activities.
