Question 7 of 10
7. Question
1 pointsConsider the following statements :
-
- High clouds primarily reflect solar radiation and cool the surface of the Earth.

Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- S1: High clouds frequently have thin layers and little reflection. They let in a great deal of the Sun’s warmth. When compared to the warmer, lower clouds, they emit less energy into space. As a result, higher clouds “trap” more energy than lower clouds do.
- S2: Many times, low clouds are rather dense and reflect a great deal of sunlight back into space. Excellent reflectors are low-lying clouds. They do not, however, prevent the longwave energy from vanishing into space. Low clouds hence contribute to Earth’s cooling.
