New Initiative: Revision Through MCQs (RTM) – Revision of Current Affairs Made Interesting
As revision is the key to success in this exam, we are starting a new initiative where you will revise current affairs effectively through MCQs (RTM) that are solely based on Insights Daily Current Affairs.
These questions will be different than our regular current affairs quiz. These questions are framed to TEST how well you have read and revised Insights Current Affairs on daily basis.
We will post nearly 10 MCQs every day which are based on previous day’s Insights current affairs. Tonight we will be posting RTM questions on the Insights current affairs of October 3, 2019.
The added advantage of this initiative is it will help you solve at least 20 MCQs daily (5 Static + 5 CA Quiz + 10 RTM) – thereby helping you improve your retention as well as elimination and guessing skills.

Question 1 of 10
1. Question
1 pointsConsider the following statements:
-
- The Speaker of Lok Sabha can suspend the members of the house for disrupting the proceedings of the house.
- The Speaker can also revoke the suspension if she desires.
- In case of Rajya Sabha, the Chairman has the power to suspend the member.
How many of the above statements given is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (a)
Explanation:
- Among the tools available to the Speaker for ensuring discipline is the power to force a member to withdraw from the House (for the remaining part of the day), or to place him under suspension.
- While the Speaker is empowered to place a member under suspension, the authority for revocation of this order is not vested in her. It is for the House, if it so desires, to resolve on a motion to revoke the suspension.
- Unlike the Speaker, the Rajya Sabha Chairman does not have the power to suspend a member. In such a situation, the House may adopt a motion suspending the member from the service of the House for a period not exceeding the remainder of the session. The House may, however, by another motion, terminate the suspension.

Question 4 of 10
4. Question
1 pointsWhich of the following is NOT an advantage of 3D printing?
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- 3D printers can be expensive, especially high-end models. However, the cost of 3D printing is decreasing as the technology becomes more widespread.
- Here is an explanation of each of the answer choices:
- (A) is an advantage of 3D printing because it allows for rapid prototyping. This means that engineers can create physical models of their designs quickly and easily, which can help them to identify and fix problems before manufacturing the final product.
- (B) is also an advantage of 3D printing because it allows for quick iterations of designs. This means that engineers can make changes to their designs and print out new prototypes very quickly, which can help them to optimize their designs.
- (C) is an advantage of 3D printing because it allows for the creation of complex shapes that would be difficult or impossible to create using traditional manufacturing methods.
- (D) is not an advantage of 3D printing because 3D printers can be expensive, especially high-end models. However, the cost of 3D printing is decreasing as the technology becomes more widespread.

Question 6 of 10
6. Question
1 pointsConsider the following statements.
-
- The breaks in monsoon are related to the movement of the monsoon trough.
- The onset of monsoon is a more gradual process compared to the withdrawal or the retreat of the monsoon.
Which of the above statements is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (a)
Explanation:
- A phenomenon associated with the monsoon is its tendency to have ‘breaks’ in rainfall. Thus, it has wet and dry spells. In other words, the monsoon rains take place only for a few days at a time. They are interspersed with rainless intervals.
- These breaks in monsoon are related to the movement of the monsoon trough. For various reasons, the trough and its axis keep on moving northward or southward, which determines the spatial distribution of rainfall.
- Withdrawal or the retreat of the monsoon is a more gradual process.

1 pointsConsider the following statements about North Sea:
-
- It is located entirely within the Pacific Ocean.
- It is bounded by four ocean currents forming an ocean gyre.
- It is the only sea without a land boundary
How many of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- Geographically, the North Sea lies between England and Scotland on its west, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France on its south, and Norway, Denmark, and Germany on its East.
- Why is the North Sea important?
- Almost the entire seabed of the North Sea is a continental shelf (depth of only about 200 meters). The geological formations beneath the North Sea, such as porous rocks and structural traps, provide suitable environments for the collection of oil and gas reserves.

Question 10 of 10
10. Question
1 pointsWhich of the following practices can help in water conservation in agriculture?
-
- Reduced or zero tillage of the land
- Applying gypsum before irrigating the field
- Allowing crop residue to remain in the field
Select the correct answer using the code given below :
Correct
Ans; (d)
Explanation:
- Statement 1: Tillage is the agricultural preparation of soil by mechanical agitation of various types, such as digging, stirring, and overturning.
- No-till farming (also called zero tillage or direct drilling) is a way of growing crops or pasture from year to year without disturbing the soil through tillage. Zero tillage helps in soil moisture conservation.
- Statement 2: An infiltration problem often occurs in farms if the irrigation water does not enter the soil rapidly enough during a normal irrigation cycle.
- Gypsum helps in dissolution of the salt clay pan found in soils that hinder the percolation of water. This increases the efficiency of irrigation as less water is needed to irrigate the same soil.
- Adding gypsum to irrigation water further increases its infiltration rate.
- Statement 3: This reduces evaporation of farm soil water.
