Question 1 of 10
1. Question
A bag contains five white and four red balls. Two balls are picked at random from the bag. What is the probability that they both are different color?
Correct
Solution: C
Two balls can be picked from nine balls in ⁹C₂ ways.
We select one white ball and one red ball from five white balls and four red balls. This can be done ⁵C₁ * ⁴C₁ ways.
The required probability = (5 * 4)/⁹C₂ = 20/36 = 5/9

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
Two trains of equal length, running with the speeds of 60 and 40 kmph, take 50 seconds to cross each other while they are running in the same direction. What time will they take to cross each other if they are running in opposite directions?
Correct
Solution: B
Relative Speed of trains when moving in same direction = (60 -40) kmph = 20 * 5/18 = 100/18 m/s
Time = 50 sec
Total Distance = Relative Speed * Time = 100/18 * 50 = 2500/9 m
Relative Speed when moving in opposite direction = (60 + 40) kmph = 100 * 5/18 m/s = 500/18 m/s
Therefore, Time taken = Distance/Speed = 2500/9 * 18/500 = 10 sec
Incorrect
Solution: B
Relative Speed of trains when moving in same direction = (60 -40) kmph = 20 * 5/18 = 100/18 m/s
Time = 50 sec
Total Distance = Relative Speed * Time = 100/18 * 50 = 2500/9 m
Relative Speed when moving in opposite direction = (60 + 40) kmph = 100 * 5/18 m/s = 500/18 m/s
Therefore, Time taken = Distance/Speed = 2500/9 * 18/500 = 10 sec

Question 4 of 10
4. Question
The respective ratio of the ages of Ramya and her mother is 1 : 2, after 6 years, the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 20. What was the respective ratio of their ages before 9 years?
Correct
Solution: B
Let the present age of Ramya and her mother be X and 2X respectively.
After 6 years, the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 20
= (X + 6)/(2X + 6) = 11/20
= 20X + 120 = 22X + 66
= 2X = 54 or X = 27
So, present age of Ramya = 27 yrs
Present age of her mother = 54 yrs
Therefore, before 9 years, ratio of Ramya and her mother
= (27 – 9)/(54 – 9)
= 18/45
= 2 : 5.Incorrect
= 18/45
= 2 : 5. -
Question 5 of 10
5. Question
A and B can do a piece of work in 7 days. With the help of C they finish the work in 5 days. C alone can do that piece of work in?
Correct
Solution: B
Work done by A, B and C together in one day = 1/5
Work done by A and B in one day = 1/7
Therefore, work done by C alone in one day = 1/5 – 1/7 = 2/35
Therefore, total time taken by C alone to complete the work = 35/2 days or 17.5 days.
Incorrect

Question 6 of 10
6. Question
Passage 1
The need for Competition Law becomes more evident when foreign direct investment (FDI) is liberalized. The impact of FDI is not always pro-competitive. Very often FDI takes the form of a foreign corporation acquiring a domestic enterprise or establishing a joint venture with one. By making such an acquisition the foreign investor may substantially lessen competition and gain a dominant position in the relevant market, thus charging higher prices. Another scenario is where the affiliates of two separate multinational companies (MNCs) have been established in competition with one another in a particular developing economy, following the liberalization of FDI. Subsequently, the parent companies overseas merge. With the affiliate’s no longer remaining independent, competition in the host country may be virtually eliminated and the prices of the products may be artificially inflated. Most of these adverse consequences of mergers and acquisitions by MNCs can be avoided if an effective competition law is in place. Also, an economy that has implemented an effective competition law is in a better position to attract FDI than one that has not. This is not just because most MNCs are expected to be accustomed to the operation of such a law in their home countries and know how to deal with such concerns but also that MNCs expect competition authorities to ensure a level playing field between domestic and foreign firms.
26)With reference to the passage, consider the following statements:
- It is desirable that the impact of Foreign Direct Investment should be pro-competitive.
- The entry of foreign investors invariably leads to the inflated prices in domestic markets.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Correct Answer: A
Explanation:
The effect of FDI or Foreign Direct Investment should be to induce competition because this is ensured in most countries worldwide.
Incorrect
Correct Answer: A

Question 9 of 10
9. Question
Modern economic theory does not differentiate between renewable and non-renewable materials, as its approach is to measure everything by means of a money price. Thus, taking various alternative fuels like coal, oil, wood and water-power; the only difference between them recognized by modern economics is relative cost per equivalent unit. The cheapest is automatically the one to be preferred, as to do otherwise would be irrational and uneconomic. From a Buddhist point of view, of course, this will not do since the essential difference between non-renewable fuels like coal and oil on the one hand and renewable sources like wind power and water-power on the other cannot be simply overlooked.
Non-renewable goods must be used only if their use is indispensable, and then only with the greatest care and highest concern for conservation. To use them carelessly or extravagantly is an act of violence, and while complete non-violence may not be possible on this earth, it is nonetheless a duty of man to aim at the ideal of non-violence in all he does.
Which of the following statements is/are correct on the basis of information in the above passage?
- Buddhist economists prohibit the use of nonrenewable source.
- The attitude of modern economists towards natural resources is uneconomic.
- Complete non-violence is not possible.
Select the correct answer using the code given below:
