New Initiative: Revision Through MCQs (RTM) – Revision of Current Affairs Made Interesting
As revision is the key to success in this exam, we are starting a new initiative where you will revise current affairs effectively through MCQs (RTM) that are solely based on Insights Daily Current Affairs.
These questions will be different than our regular current affairs quiz. These questions are framed to TEST how well you have read and revised Insights Current Affairs on daily basis.
We will post nearly 10 MCQs every day which are based on previous day’s Insights current affairs. Tonight we will be posting RTM questions on the Insights current affairs of October 3, 2019.
The added advantage of this initiative is it will help you solve at least 20 MCQs daily (5 Static + 5 CA Quiz + 10 RTM) – thereby helping you improve your retention as well as elimination and guessing skills.

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
1 pointsWhich of the following statements is true about lithium-ion batteries?
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- lithium-ion batteries are the most common type of battery used in laptops and smartphones. They are made up of three main components: the cathode, the anode, and the electrolyte. They are also a type of rechargeable battery that can be used hundreds of times before they need to be replaced.
- Here is an explanation of each of the statements:
- Statement A is true. Lithium-ion batteries are the most common type of battery used in laptops and smartphones. They are also used in a variety of other devices, such as electric cars, power tools, and cameras.
- Statement B is true. Lithium-ion batteries are made up of three main components: the cathode, the anode, and the electrolyte. The cathode is the positive electrode, the anode is the negative electrode, and the electrolyte is a substance that allows the ions to flow between the cathode and the anode.
- Statement C is true. Lithium-ion batteries are a type of rechargeable battery that can be used hundreds of times before they need to be replaced. This is because the lithium ions can be removed from the cathode and stored in the anode, and then be returned to the cathode when the battery is recharged.

-
- Venezuela
- Bolivia
- Brazil
- Chile
- Argentina
Select the correct answer code:
Correct
Ans: (c )
Explanation:
- The Lithium Triangle is a region of the Andes rich in lithium reserves around the borders of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. The lithium in the triangle is concentrated in various salt pans that exist along the Atacama Desert and neighboring arid areas.
- The area is thought to hold around 54% of the world’s lithium reserves.

Question 5 of 10
5. Question
1 pointsConsider the following statements regarding solid-state battery.
-
- A solid-state battery uses solid electrodes and a solid electrolyte, instead of the liquid electrolytes found in lithium-ion batteries.
- Energy density in lithium-ion batteries is higher than solid-state batteries.
- Solid-state batteries are used in pacemakers, RFID and wearable devices.
How many of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (b)
Explanation:
- A solid-state battery is a battery technology that uses solid electrodes and a solid electrolyte, instead of the liquid or polymer gel electrolytes found in lithium-ion or lithium polymer batteries.
- Solid-state batteries have found use in pacemakers, RFID and wearable devices. They are potentially safer, with higher energy densities, but at a much higher cost.
- A solid-state battery can increase energy density per unit area since only a small number of batteries are needed. For that reason, a solid-state battery is perfect to make an EV battery system of module and pack, which needs high capacity.
- Challenges to widespread adoption include energy and power density, durability, material costs, sensitivity and stability.

Question 6 of 10
6. Question
1 pointsConsider the following statements regarding Aluminium-air batteries.
-
- Aluminium-air batteries utilise oxygen in the air to produce electricity.
- It is cost effective and more energy-dense alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
- The time taken to recharge Aluminium-air batteries is less compared to lithium-ion batteries.
How many of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (b)
Explanation:
- What is an aluminium-air battery?
- Aluminium-air batteries utilise oxygen in the air which reacts with an aluminium hydroxide solution to oxidise the aluminium and produce electricity.
- Benefits:
- Lower cost and more energy-dense alternative to lithium-ion batteries which are currently in widespread use for electric vehicles in India.
- Offer much greater range of 400 km or more per battery compared to lithium-ion batteries which currently offer a range of 150-200 kilometres per full charge.
- The aluminium plate in an aluminium-air battery is converted into aluminium trihydroxide over time and that aluminium can be reclaimed from aluminium trihydroxide or even traded directly for industrial uses.
- Challenges:
- Aluminium-air batteries cannot be recharged like lithium-ion batteries. Therefore, large scale use of aluminium-air battery-based vehicles would require the wide availability of battery swapping stations.
