Question 1 of 10
1. Question
Divide the amount 312 in such a way among 100 students such that boys gets Rs. 3.60 each and each girl gets Rs. 2.40. How many girls are there?
Correct
Solution: A
If x is the number of girls then, the number of boys = (100-x)
∴ 2.40 *x + 3.60 *(100-x) = 312
⇒ 240/100 *x + {360*(100-x)/100} = 312
⇒ 240x + 36000 – 360 x = 31200
⇒ 120x = (36000- 31200 ) = 4800 ⇒ x = 4800/120 = 40
⇒ Number of girls = 40.
Hence, option (a) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution: A
If x is the number of girls then, the number of boys = (100-x)
∴ 2.40 *x + 3.60 *(100-x) = 312
⇒ 240/100 *x + {360*(100-x)/100} = 312

⇒ Number of girls = 40.
Hence, option (a) is correct.

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
Directions for the following items: 3-7
Read the following passage and answer the items that follow. Your answers to these items should be based on the passage only.
Passage 7
We generally talk about democracy but when it comes to any particular thing, we prefer a belonging to our caste or community or religion. So long as we have this kind of temptation, our democracy will remain a phony kind of democracy. We must be in a position to respect a man as a man and to extend opportunities for development to those who deserve them and not to those who happen to belong to our community or race. This fact of favoritism has been responsible for much discontent and ill-will in our country
Which one of the following statements best sums up the above passage?
Correct
Correct Answer: B
Explanation:
Option A is wrong as it is a general statement and doesn’t represent the crux of the passage.
C is wrong as the opening line of the passage says that people talk about democracy (or understood democracy) but they have a weakness favoring their caste or community or religion.
D is wrong as it projects an extreme situation which is out of the scope of the passage.
B is the most appropriate statement as it talks about providing equal opportunities to all irrespective of the caste or community or religion. That’s what a True democracy is.

Question 4 of 10
4. Question
If the ratio of ages of two persons Ram and sham is 5:4 . After Three years their age ratio changes and becomes 11:9. In that case What is the present age of mr. sham.
Correct
Solution:- B
If the age of Mr. Ram 5x and 4x is the age of Mr. sham.
Then, ( 5x+3) /( 4x+3) = 11/9 ⇒ 9 (5x+3)= 11 (4x+3) ⇒ x= (33-27) = 6
So the present age of Mr. sham = 6*4 = 24 years.
Hence, option (b) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution:- B
If the age of Mr. Ram 5x and 4x is the age of Mr. sham.
Then, ( 5x+3) /( 4x+3) = 11/9 ⇒ 9 (5x+3)= 11 (4x+3) ⇒ x= (33-27) = 6
So the present age of Mr. sham = 6*4 = 24 years.
Hence, option (b) is correct.

Question 5 of 10
5. Question
Two train 128 m and 132m long are running towards each other on parallel lines at 42 km/hr and 30 km / hr respectively . In what time will they cross each other from the moment they meet?
Correct
Solution: A
Relative speed = ( 42 + 30 ) km/hr = 72 km/hr
= ( 72 * 5 / 18 ) m/sec = 20 m / sec.
Distance covered in passing each other = ( 128 + 132) m = 260m.
∴ Required time = 260 / 20 sec= 13 sec.
Hence, option (a) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution: A
Relative speed = ( 42 + 30 ) km/hr = 72 km/hr
= ( 72 * 5 / 18 ) m/sec = 20 m / sec.
Distance covered in passing each other = ( 128 + 132) m = 260m.
∴ Required time = 260 / 20 sec= 13 sec.
Hence, option (a) is correct.

Question 6 of 10
6. Question
5 men or 9 women can do a piece of work in 19 days. In how many days will 3 men and 6 women do it?
Correct
Solution: D
9 women = 5 men ⇒ 1 women = 5/9 men
⇒ 6 women = (5/9 * 6) men = 10/3 men.
3 men +6 women = (3+ 10/3 ) men = 19/3 men.
Let the required number of days be x.
More men, less days
19/3 : 5 :: 19 : x ⇒ 19 /3 *x = (5 *19)
⇒ x= (5* 19 * 3 /19 ) = 15.
∴ Required number of days = 15.
Hence, option (d) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution: D
9 women = 5 men ⇒ 1 women = 5/9 men
⇒ 6 women = (5/9 * 6) men = 10/3 men.
3 men +6 women = (3+ 10/3 ) men = 19/3 men.
Let the required number of days be x.
More men, less days
19/3 : 5 :: 19 : x ⇒ 19 /3 *x = (5 *19)
⇒ x= (5* 19 * 3 /19 ) = 15.
∴ Required number of days = 15.
Hence, option (d) is correct.

Question 7 of 10
7. Question
Daughter’s present age is 2/5 in comparison of her mother .8 year later , age of her daughter will be 1/2 in the comparison of her mother. Find out mother present age?
Correct
Solution: B
If the present age of mother is equal to x year.
In that situation the daughter present age would be = 2x/5 years.
2x/5 + 8 = 1/2 (x+8) ⇒ 4x+ 80 = 5x+40 ⇒ x = 40.
The mother age at the present time is = 40 years.
Hence, option (b) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution: B
If the present age of mother is equal to x year.

Question 10 of 10
10. Question
Climate change is already making many people hungry all over the world, by disrupting crop yields and pushing up prices. And it is not just food but nutrients that are becoming scarcer as the climate changes. It is the poorest communities that will suffer the worst effects of climate change, including increased hunger and malnutrition as crop production and livelihoods are threatened. On the other hand, poverty is a driver of climate change, as desperate communities resort to unsustainable use of resources to meet current needs.
Which among the following is the most logical corollary to the above passage?
Correct
Correct answer is B
Explanation: A corollary is a proposition that follows from one already proved.
B is the most appropriate as the passage clearly states that poverty and climate impacts reinforce each other. Poverty leads to climate deterioration (due to unsustainable use of resources, refer last line) and climate change leads to poverty.
A and C are wrong as they talk about poverty alleviation, increase in food subsidies, etc. in alienation. They have got nothing to do with climate change.
D is wrong as it suggests a solution to curb climate change (stop unsustainable agricultural practices) and poverty (control food prices). It does not talk about their interdependence.
