Until the end of his first year at school, Cyril retained many of the pleasures and pursuits he had brought with him from home, and he kept an old interest in butterflies and fossils. His grandmother had presented him with a fine bird’s eggs cabinet, but he could never bring himself to risk climbing trees. Once or twice he dissected dead birds from sheer determination to overcome his horror of the operation. Probably it was his envy of those physically unlike himself that brought on a phase during which he drew massive athletes with thick necks and square shoulders. Again he pitied himself for what he could never be.

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
A man cycles from A to B, a separation of 21 km in 1 hr 40 min. The street from A is level for 13 km and afterward it is tough to B. The man’s normal rate on level is 15 km/hr. Locate his normal tough pace?
Correct
Solution: A
Let the normal tough rate be x km/hr. at that point,
13/15 + 8/x = 5/3
=>8/x= (5/3-13/15) = 12/15 = 4/5
=>x = (8*5)/4 = 10
∴ Normal tough rate = 10 km/hr
Hence, option (a) is correct.
Incorrect
Solution: A
Let the normal tough rate be x km/hr. at that point,
13/15 + 8/x = 5/3
=>8/x= (5/3-13/15) = 12/15 = 4/5
=>x = (8*5)/4 = 10
∴ Normal tough rate = 10 km/hr
Hence, option (a) is correct.

Question 4 of 10
4. Question
Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 24 hours and 30 hours separately. In the event that both the channel are opened all the while in the empty tank, the amount of the time taken by them to fill the tank?
Correct
Solution: B
Part filled by A in 1 hour = 1/24, part filled by B in 1 hour = 1/30
Part filled by (A+B) in 1 hour = (1/24+ 1/30) = 9/120 = 3/40
Time taken by both to fill the tank = 40/3 hrs = 13 hrs 20 min.
Hence, option (b) is correct.
Incorrect

Question 5 of 10
5. Question
A clock hums 1 time at 1o, clock, 2 times at 2o, clock, 3 times at 3o, clock etc. What will be the aggregate quantities of hums in a day?
Correct
Solution: C
Total number of buzzes =2 (1+2+3+……….+12).
This is an A.P. in which a=1, d=1, n = 12 and L = 12.
(1+2+3+ ………+12) = 12/2* (1+12) = 78.
∴ Total number of buzzes = (2 * 78) = 156.
Hence, option (c) is correct.

Question 6 of 10
6. Question
Directions for the following items: 6-10
Read the following passage and answer the items that follow. Your answers to these items should be based on the passage only.
There is a modicum of truth in the assertion that “a working knowledge of ancient history is necessary to the intelligent interpretation of current events”. But the sage who uttered these words of wisdom might well have added something on the benefits of studying, particularly, the famous battles of history for the lessons they contain for those of us who lead or aspire to leadership. Such a study will reveal certain qualities and attributes which enabled the winners to win and certain deficiencies which caused the losers to lose. And the student will see that the same patterns recur consistently, again and again, throughout the centuries.
According to the writer, a study of famous battles of history would
Correct
Correct Answer: B
Explanation:
According to the writer, the famous battles of history would teach both the qualities to aspire and the qualities to avoid. Inculcating both the qualities would provide food to modern leaders to reflect them and so the knowledge on ancient history is essential.
Hence the correct answer is B.

Question 8 of 10
8. Question
The number of inhabitants in microbes, society copies every 2 minutes. How long will it take for the populace to develop from 1000 to 512000 microbes?
Correct
Solution : D
Let the growth be 1000, 2000, 4000 …512000.
This is a G.P. in which a = 1000, r = 2 and tn = 512000
Tn = ar&n-1 ⇒ 1000*2 &n-1 = 512000⇒ 2 &n-1 = 512= 2⁹ ⇒ (n-1) = 9.
∴ Time taken = (2*9) min = 18 min.
Hence, option (d) is correct.

Question 9 of 10
9. Question
What should be the value of a,b,c if the we have positive integers of a, b and c such that the value of a2+b2 =45 and b2+c2 = 40.
Correct
Solution:- B
a2+b2 = 45 and b2+c2 =40
On subtracting, we get a2-c2 =5 ⇒ (a+c) (a-c) = 5
⇒ a+c= 5 and a-c = 1 ⇒ a = 3, c = 2
9+ b2 = 45 ⇒ b2 = 36 ⇒ b =6
∴ a=3, b= 6 and c = 2
Hence, option (b) is correct
Incorrect

Question 10 of 10
10. Question
Two funnels can fill a reservoir in 14 hours and 16 hours individually. The channels are opened all the while and it is found that because of spillage in the base it took 32 minutes more to fill the reservoir. Once the reservoir is full, in what time, spillage will empty the full reservoir?
Correct
Solution: C
Work done by the two funnels in 1 hour= (1/14+ 1/16) = 15/112
Time taken by these funnels to fill the tank = 112/15 hrs = 7 hrs 28 min.
Because of spillage, time taken = 7 hrs. 28 min. + 32 min. = 8 hrs.
∴ Work done by (two funnels + spill) in 1 hour = 1/8
Work done by the spillage in 1 hour = (15/112-1/8) = 1/112
Spillage will empty the drain in 112 hours.
Hence, option (c) is correct.
