Situated 45 km south of Leh (on the western bank of the River Indus), it is the largest monastic institution in Ladakh Located on top of a hill in Thiksey village, approximately 19 km east of Leh in Ladakh
Famous for the annual festival of Guru Padmasambhava and Hemis festival Notable for its resemblance to the Potala palace in Lhasa, Tibet and its annual Gustor Festival
