Question 1 of 4
1. Question
There is a need to capture the space created by trade protection measures adopted globally, particularly by the United States and China. We should focus on exporting to the US such products whose imports from China (and other countries) have been recently subjected to higher tariffs. Simultaneously, specific companies should be attracted to make products in India through foreign direct investment, joint ventures, technology transfers and value chains for further export to the US (and other countries) to benefit from a favorable tariff regime.
Which of the following is the most logical and critical inference that can be drawn from the above passage?
Correct
Ans. C. The passage highlights the opportunity that presents itself before India as a result of trade war going on between US and China which India can leverage to its own advantage. The passage is not focused on the impact of FDI, nor on the harm that the trade war has caused to the global economy or the two nations involved. Hence C is the most accurate answer.

Question 2 of 4
2. Question
Reducing education to an instrument for employment, or basic literacy and numeracy, which much of our intellectual and policy discourse tends to, is inadequate, wrong and unjust. That the disadvantaged expect much more from education, should be even less of a surprise. The promise of education is empowerment, equality and dignity. So, when education fails, which it does too often in this country, it fails the deepest of aspirations and hopes of our people.
Based on your understanding of the passage, which of the following option(s) accurately captures what the purpose of education must be?
-
- Ending caste barriers
- Holistic development of human mind
- Getting gainful employment
Correct
Ans. A. All the three options are correct. The passage states that the sole purpose of education should not be linked to getting gainful employment but should also focus on empowerment, equality and dignity. Hence all three options are correct.

Question 3 of 4
3. Question
The formless divine being has taken all possible forms in this universe. Hence, there is nothing that is good/ bad, right/ wrong because for anything to be good/bad or right/ wrong, they have to be different from each other, which in reality is not so, as everything is sourced from one origin only.
Which of the following view corroborates the above statement?
Correct
Ans. A. The line signifies that we should not have preconceived notions about anything, and that we must focus on eradicating the evil and not the agent through which evil is caused. The statement that best corroborates the passage is A as it mentions that evil doer must not be hated. Instead we should try and reform the agent while eradicating the evil.

Question 4 of 4
4. Question
Language is not only the harbinger of socio-cultural change but also the last vestige to go. The turn began when agrarian societies shifted from food grains to cash crops. The songs, ballads, sports, cultural activities connected with the cultivation of rice and ragi in South India are almost gone. It is these activities that kept the language of the region alive. The conditions for the growth and development of local languages were curtailed. Standardisation, choice of one variety of language over the other, strong purification of language contributed to the vanishing of the earthly touch in home, local and regional languages. This broke the emotional connect between people and languages.
Which of the following is the most logical and rational inference that can be drawn from the passage?
Correct
Ans. C. The passage talks about how standardization of language distances the language from the local culture of a place which leads to a decline of local language. Hence C is correct.
