Another attempted transgression by the Chinese military, this time in the Tawang sector in the eastern section of the India-China boundary, has served as a reminder of the precarious state of affairs along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Chinese military remains on India’s side of the LAC in two other friction points, in Depsang and Demchok.

December 8 is commemorated as SAARC Charter Day. It was on this day, 37 years ago, that the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), an intergovernmental organisation, was established by Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to promote economic growth in South Asia. Afghanistan acceded to SAARC later.

Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral, Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), an intergovernmental organisation established in 1997. BIMSTEC comprises five South Asian nations (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka) and two ASEAN countries (Myanmar and Thailand). Importantly, Pakistan is not a BIMSTEC member.

Nanoparticles (NPs) have wide variety of potential applications in the fields of biomedical, optical and electronics research. Metallic NPs have been efficiently exploited for biomedical applications and among them GNPs are found to be effective in biomedical research.

NPs are those materials that are at least one dimension smaller than 100 nanometres.

GNPs are found to have greater solar radiation absorbing ability than the conventional bulk gold, which makes them a better candidate for use in the photovoltaic cell manufacturing industry.

As nano-carriers, GNPs are capable of transferring various drugs made out of peptides, proteins, plasmid DNAs, small interfering RNAs, and chemotherapeutic agents to target diseased cells of the human body.

GNPs are also found to be useful in the electronics industry.

The so-called “grave breaches” of the conventions that amount to war crimes include willful killing and extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity. Other war crimes include deliberately targeting civilians, using disproportionate force, using human shields and taking hostages.

The President can appoint duly qualified persons as additional judges of a high court for a temporary period when: there is a temporary increase in the business of the high court; or there are arrears of work in the high court.

In a first, a union law secretary has been appointed as a judge of a high court. Anoop Kumar Mendiratta is an Indian Judge. Presently, he is serving as Judge of Delhi High Court. Previously, he has served as Law Secretary of India.
