There is rampant illegal stone mining in the state. Since 2015, about 50 complaints of illegal mining are registered every year. Often, there are run-ins between police and members of the mining mafia. The state has launched a crackdown against elements indulging in illegal activities, including mining. A special team has been formed under DSP Arjun to control this menace. Arjun is a young civil servant and has a reputation for his competence, integrity, dedication, and relentless pursuit of difficult and onerous jobs.
Arjun is relentless, and strict in his approach toward the illegal mafia. At regular intervals, we keep carrying out raids and act against elements who indulge in illegal mining. His team is dedicated and fighting night and day to put end to this menace. The mafia is largely supported by the local politicians who support the mafia men and doesn’t provide any information to the special team. They help the mafia carve out new routes to transport the stones illegally. In one such instance, Arjun receives a tip on a probable route of smuggling. He informs his team to raid the trucks and seize them. Only one inspector is active at this time and he reaches the spot as soon as possible. When he signaled the truck to stop, it instead drove into him. As he was alone in this raid, there was no one to admit him to the hospital immediately. After 30 minutes other members of the team reaches the spot, and the Inspector was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. The government has decided to get a judicial inquiry conducted into the death of the Inspector and all other circumstances of illegal mining in that area. Arjun deeply regrets his fearless and relentless approach and blames himself for putting the inspector’s life at risk. He takes moral responsibility for the inspector’s death and resigns from the special team.
