The state Discoms are in huge financial stress. They have not been transferred the subsidy amount by the state governments. The subsidy amount has been towards the free electricity which the Discoms have provided to the farmers. As a result, the Power generators are not being paid their remaining dues by the distribution companies. This has made them garner huge operational debts. You have been the manager of one such power generation company. You want to shut down you generation until the dues are paid, any such step would send ripple effect across the sector as you are one of the major generators. The state power minister, who has previously helped your company while setting up the plant, has personally requested you not to shut down the operations and has promised to settle the issue soon. But the situation is grim and your losses are increasing. You are thinking about legal actions on the discoms, but that would instead delayed the proceedings. Meanwhile, as it’s the election year the present government announces free power to weaker sections. You are frustrated by hearing such measures which would further jeopardize your business. In an angry social media post, you complain about the bad state of affairs of the energy sector and the government’s neglect. This has caught media’s and the opposition’s attention. The issue has been used to discredit the government. The minister is angry with your post and has warned you of consequences.
