1.  The Act of 1935 as a whole was important. It not only acted as an interim constitution but also provided a basis for the constitution of Free India. Elucidate. (250 words)

3. Ayurveda, India’s traditional medicine, has been in practice for close to three millennia. Even today, this ancient system serves the health-care needs of millions of Indians. The adaptation of a traditional knowledge-system for current use comes with its challenges which needs to be acknowledged and resolved. Discuss. (250 words).

Why the question: A recent article in the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics has renewed the plea to reform and update Ayurveda. Titled “Confessions of an Ayurveda Professor”, the article is authored by Kishor Patwardhan, a faculty member of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Prof. Patwardhan has candidly admitted that the anatomy and physiology contained in the Ayurvedic classics is mostly outdated and that the official approach to this subject is misguided.

4. India has witnessed remarkable growth over the last few decades. However, the road mobility infrastructure has not kept pace with the demand. Examine. What measures are required to transform India’s road mobility? (250 words)

Why the question: The rapid growth in India’s urbanization, population and wealth over the last few decades has had a marked effect on the mobility of its citizens. India’s transport demand has grown by almost 8 times since 1980 – more than any other Asian economy.
