Question 1 of 5
1. Question
A dealer sold a TV at a loss of 2.5%. Had he sold it for Rs. 100 more, he would have gained 7.5%. To gain 12.5% he should sell it for:
Correct
Answer: D
Explanation – Let C.P be Rs.x then,(107.5 % of x) – (97.5 % of x) = 100 => 10% of x = 100 => x =1000 ∴ desired S.P = 112.5 % of Rs. 100 = Rs.(225/2 x 1/100 x 1000) =Rs. 1125
Incorrect

2. Question
Rakesh rows to the place 80 km away and back in 20 hours. He finds that he can row 8 km downstream in the same time as 4 km upstream. The speed of the boat in stillwater is
Correct
Answer : A
Explanation: If Rakesh moves 8 km downstream in X hours Downstream speed = 8/X kmph upstream speed = 4/X kmph Now 80/(8/X) + 80/(4/X)=20 X=2/3 downstream Speed = 8/(2/3)= 12 kmph upstream Speed = 4/(2/3)= 6 kmph Rate of the stream = (12+6)/2= 9 kmph
Incorrect
Answer : A

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
A man purchased wheat worth Rs. 400. He sold 3/4 at a loss of 10% and the reminder at a gain of 10%. On the whole he gets:
Correct
Answer : A
Explanation – C.P of 3/4th = Rs. (3/4 x 400) = Rs. 300, C.P of 1/4th = Rs. 100 ∴ Total S.P = (90% of Rs. 300 + 110% of Rs. 100) = Rs. 380, Loss = (20/400 x 100)% = 5%
Incorrect
Answer : A
Explanation – C.P of 3/4th = Rs. (3/4 x 400) = Rs. 300, C.P of 1/4th = Rs. 100 ∴ Total S.P = (90% of Rs. 300 + 110% of Rs. 100) = Rs. 380, Loss = (20/400 x 100)% = 5%

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
The present ages of three persons are in the ratio 4:7:9. Eight years ago, the sum of their ages was 56. Find their present (ages in years)?
Correct
Answer : B
Explanation: Let the ages of three persons be 4x, 7x and 9x respectively. Eight years ago, their ages were (4x-8), (7x-8) and (9x-8). The sum of their ages eight years ago = 4x – 8 + 7x – 8 + 9x – 8 = 20x – 24 = 56. 20x = 80 x = 4 Therefore, their respective ages are 16, 28 and 36 years.

5. Question
Find the least number which when divided by 10, 11, 15 and 22 leaves 3, 4, 8 and 15 as remainders, respectively.
Correct
Answer : B
Explanation: Least number which when divided by 10, 11, 15 and 22 so as to leave 3, 4, 8 and 15 as remainders, respectively will be equal to [LCM (10, 11, 15, 22) –7] Since, LCM of 10, 11, 15 and 22 is 330 ∴ The required number = 330 – 7 = 323
