Question 1 of 5
1. Question
Driven by good performance compared to other sectors during the pandemic, agriculture has absorbed an additional 11 million workers over the last three years while the rest of the economy lost 15 million jobs, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy said. This has been possible because of good monsoon, bumper production and higher prices. Also, agricultural prices have remained elevated as well. Farmers have therefore seen the benefits of rising prices for their bumper crops and have also benefited from favourable terms of trade. This prompted the migration of labour to agriculture. Going forward, it is anticipated that India will record the fifth consecutive year of bumper wheat crop supported by increased procurement by the government and the increase in minimum support price. The Russia-Ukraine war has raised global prices to a point where they stand at twice their year-ago level. As the war threatens to be prolonged the price is expected to remain elevated, farmer sentiments have several good reasons to continue to remain upbeat.
Which one of the following is best implied in the passage?
- Strong measures need to be taken to reduce the migration of labour to agriculture
- Farmer’s economic conditions need to be improved.
- Overall Unemployment is set to reduce as agriculture absorbs more of additional workers.
- Russia-Ukraine war has provided a unique opportunity for India to increase its wheat exports.

Answer : D
Explanation:
Statement 1 is wrong: The passage doesn’t mention that the absorption of additional 11 million workers have burdened agriculture. So, this is not the correct implication.

Statement 3 is incorrect: 15mn lost the job during the pandemic compared to 11mn absorbed by agriculture.
Statement 4 is incorrect: Although this is right that, India can increase its wheat exports. However, the passage never mentions about export or trade. Hence, this can’t be implied as per the passage.

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
The average temperature in Delhi for the first four days of the month was reported as 58 degrees. It reported as 60 degrees for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th days. The ratio of the temperatures of 1st and 5th day was 7 : 8. Find the temperature on the first day.
Correct
Answer : B
Explanation : A+B+C+D = 58*4 B+C+D+E = 60*4 ,Subtract both, E – A = 8 So 8x – 7x = 8, x = 8 So temperature of A(1st day) = 7x = 7*8=56 deg.
Incorrect
Answer : B
Explanation : A+B+C+D = 58*4 B+C+D+E = 60*4 ,Subtract both, E – A = 8 So 8x – 7x = 8, x = 8 So temperature of A(1st day) = 7x = 7*8=56 deg.
