New Initiative: Revision Through MCQs (RTM) – Revision of Current Affairs Made Interesting
As revision is the key to success in this exam, we are starting a new initiative where you will revise current affairs effectively through MCQs (RTM) that are solely based on Insights Daily Current Affairs.
These questions will be different than our regular current affairs quiz. These questions are framed to TEST how well you have read and revised Insights Current Affairs on daily basis.
We will post nearly 10 MCQs every day which are based on previous day’s Insights current affairs. Tonight we will be posting RTM questions on the Insights current affairs of October 3, 2019.
The added advantage of this initiative is it will help you solve at least 20 MCQs daily (5 Static + 5 CA Quiz + 10 RTM) – thereby helping you improve your retention as well as elimination and guessing skills.

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
1 pointsThe term Telomere-to-Telomere (T2T) is talked about in the context of
Correct
Ans: (c)
Explanation:
- The genetic sequence made available in 2003 from the Human Genome Project, an international collaboration between 1990 and 2003, contained information from a region of the human genome known as the Here, the chromosome is rich in genes, and the DNA encodes for protein.
- The 8% that was left out was in the area called heterochromatin. This is a smaller portion of the genome, and does not produce protein.
- There were at least two key reasons why heterochromatin was given lower priority. This part of the genome was thought to be “junk DNA”, because it had no clear function. Besides, the euchromatin contained more genes that were simpler to sequence with the tools available at the time.
- Now, the fully sequenced genome is the result of the efforts of a global collaboration called the Telomere-2-Telomere (T2T) project. The invention of new methods of DNA sequencing and computational analysis helped complete the reading of the remaining 8% of the genome.
- The Telomere-to-Telomere (T2T) consortium is an open, community-based effort to generate the first complete assembly of a human genome.

Question 4 of 10
4. Question
1 pointsWith reference to agriculture in India, how can the technique of `genome sequencing’, often seen in the news, be used in the immediate future?
-
- Genome sequencing can be used to identify genetic markers for disease resistance and drought tolerance in various crop plants.
- This technique helps in reducing the time required to develop new varieties of crop plants.
- It can be used to decipher the host-pathogen relationships in crops.
Select the correct answer using the code given below:
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- Genome sequencing is figuring out the order of DNA nucleotides, or bases, in a genome—the order of As, Cs, Gs, and Ts that make up an organism’s DNA.
- Justification: Statement 1: Currently available newborn screening (genome) for childhood diseases allows detection of rare disorders that can be prevented or better treated by early detection and intervention.
- Statement 2: Naturally if the gene potential can be identified by screening and sequencing, it will help in better genetic engineering.
- Statement 3: This can be reasoned logically based on the above.

1 pointsConsider the following statements regarding the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958:
-
- Section (3) of AFSPA provides that, if the governor of a state issues an official notification in The Gazette of India then the Central government has the authority to deploy armed forces for assisting the civilian authorities.
- Section (4) of AFSPA gives special powers to Army officers in disturbed areas to shoot any individual without warning who violates law/or is suspected to violate law.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (a)
Explanation:
- S1: Section (3) of AFSPA provides that, if the governor of a state issues an official notification in The Gazette of India then the Central government has the authority to deploy armed forces for assisting the civilian authorities. Once a region is declared ‘disturbed’ then it has to maintain the status quo for a minimum of three months, as per The Disturbed Areas Act of 1976.
- S2: Section (4) of AFSPA gives special powers to army officers in disturbed areas to shoot (even if it kills) any individual who violates law / or is suspected to violate law (this includes assembly of five or more people, carrying of weapons) etc. The only condition is that the officer has to give a warning before opening fire.
- Security forces can arrest anybody even without a warrant, and carry out searches without consent.

Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- CJI N.V. Ramana launches digital platform ‘Fast and Secured Transmission of Electronic Records’
- The platform would be used by the court officials to instantly to send e-copies of the orders through a secured electronic communication channel to intended parties thus ensuring that judicial orders can be communicated quickly.
- Through the use of this software orders that were passed by the high courts (HC) and the Supreme Court (SC) will be transmitted safely without any third-party interference.
- Bail orders will be communicated via FASTER and for authentication purposes, it will have the digital signatures of the notified nodal officers of the SC as well as the Institutional digital signatures.
- In this manner, without much loss of time, bail orders would be received by all the concerned parties and quick necessary actions will be taken at their end.
