Question 1 of 5
1. Question
A sailor sails a distance of 48 km along the flow of a river in 8 h. If it takes 12 h to return the same distance, then the speed of the flow of the river is
Correct
Sol : b)
Let speed of the flow of water be v km/h and rate of sailing of sailer be u km/h.
Then,
u+v= 48/8 ⇒ u+v = 6 ………………………………(1)
And u-v = 48/12 ⇒ u-v = 4 ………………….(2)
On solving Eqs. (1) and (2), we get
v=1 km/h

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
Ram sells his goods 20% cheaper than Bobby and 20% dearer than Chandilya. How much percentage is Chandilya’s goods cheaper/dearer than Bobby’s?
Correct
Sol. a)
If we take Ram as 100, we will get Bobby as 125 and Chandilya as 83.33. This means Chandilya’s goods are priced at 2/3rd Bobby’s and hence he sells his goods 33.33% cheaper than Bobby.
Incorrect

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
During winters, an athlete can run ‘x’ metres on one bottle of Glucose. But in the summer, he can only run 0.5 x metres on one bottle of Glucose. How many bottles of Glucose are required to run 400 metres during summer?
Correct
Sol. a)
1 Bottle → 0.5x metres
2 Bottles → 400 metres
Using unitary method, we get no. of bottles = 400/0.5x = 800/x Bottles.
Incorrect
Sol. a)
1 Bottle → 0.5x metres
2 Bottles → 400 metres
Using unitary method, we get no. of bottles = 400/0.5x = 800/x Bottles.

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
The seven digit number 876p37q is divisible by 225. The values of p and q can be respectively
Correct
Sol: d)
Seven digits number 876p37q is divisible by 225, then this number is also divisible by 9 and 25.
If this number is divisible by 9.
∴Sum of its digits is divisible by 9
Now, sum of digits= 8+ 7 + 6+ P+ 3+ 7+ q = 31+ p+q
p+q= 5 or p + q=14,q must be 5, if q= 5, p = 0 and 9

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
Let x and y be positive integers such that x˃y. The expression 3x + 2y and 2x +3y, when divided by 5 leave remainders 2 and 3, respectively. What is the remainder when (x-y), is divided by 5?
Correct
Sol: a)
We have, 3x+2y is divided by 5 remainder is 2.
∴3x+2y=5q+2 ……………………..(1)
And 2x +3y is divided by 5 remainder is 3.
∴ 2x + 3y = 5m+3 ……………………..(2)
Subtract Eq. (2 ) from Eq.(1) , we get
x-y = 5(q-m)-1
x-y=5(q-m)-5+4
x-y=5(q-m-1)+4
∴x-y is divided by 5 remainder is 4.
Incorrect
Sol: a)
We have, 3x+2y is divided by 5 remainder is 2.
∴3x+2y=5q+2 ……………………..(1)
And 2x +3y is divided by 5 remainder is 3.
∴ 2x + 3y = 5m+3 ……………………..(2)
Subtract Eq. (2 ) from Eq.(1) , we get
x-y = 5(q-m)-1
x-y=5(q-m)-5+4
x-y=5(q-m-1)+4
∴x-y is divided by 5 remainder is 4.
