Question 1 of 5
1. Question
A motor car does a journey in 17.5 hours, covering the first half at 30 km/h and the second half at 40 km/h. Find the distance of the journey.
Correct
Ans. (b)
Here Total time= 17.5 hours
let total Distance be 2 D km
then [(D/30)+(D/40) ] = 17.5 hours
D[(1/30)+(1/40)] = 17.5
D x(7/120) = 17.5
D = (17.5×120)/7
D = 300 km
Total Distance = 2D = 600km

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
Manish travels a certain distance by car at the rate of 12km/h and walks back at the rate of 3 km/h. The whole journey took 5 hours. What is the distance he covered on the car?
Correct
Ans. (a)
Let Distance be D km
(D/12)+(D/3)=5
D [(1/12)+(1/3)]=5
D = (5 x 12)/5 = 12km
Incorrect
Ans. (a)
Let Distance be D km
(D/12)+(D/3)=5
D [(1/12)+(1/3)]=5
D = (5 x 12)/5 = 12km

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
A railway passenger counts the telegraph poles on the rail road as he passes them. The telegraph poles are at a distance of 50 meters. What will be his count in 4 hours, if the speed of the train is 45 km per hour.
Correct
Ans. (c)
Total Distance covered= 45 x 4 =180 km
Number of Poles =(180000/50) = 3600
Incorrect

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
A passenger train takes 2h less for a journey of 300 kilometres if its speed is increased by 5 kmph over its usual speed. Find the usual speed.
Correct
Ans. (d)
(300/S )- (300/S+5)= 2 ……………………………………(1)
going directly through options and using
equation (1) we get
S= 25 km/hour

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
A plane left half an hour later than the scheduled time and in order to reach its destination 1500 kilometre away in time, it had to increase its speed by 33.33 per cent over its usual speed. Find its increased speed
Correct
Ans. (c)
33.33% = 1/3 of normal speed
[(D/(S+(1/3S)) – D/S = 1/2
1500/(4/3S) – 1500/S = 1/2……………………………(1)
going through option and (1) we get
S = 750 km/hour
Incorrect
Ans. (c)
33.33% = 1/3 of normal speed
[(D/(S+(1/3S)) – D/S = 1/2
1500/(4/3S) – 1500/S = 1/2……………………………(1)
