Question 1 of 5
1. Question
Two train 126 m and 114 m long are running in opposite directions, one at the rate of 30 kmph and another one at 42 kmph. From the moment they meet will cross each other in:
Correct
Ans.(C)
Relative speed = (30+42) kmph = 72 kmph
= (72 × 5/18) m/sec = 20 m/sec
Distance covered in crossing each other
= (126 + 114) m = 240 m.
Required time = (240/20)sec = 12 Seconds.
Incorrect
Ans.(C)
Relative speed = (30+42) kmph = 72 kmph
= (72 × 5/18) m/sec = 20 m/sec
Distance covered in crossing each other
= (126 + 114) m = 240 m.
Required time = (240/20)sec = 12 Seconds.

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
A train 110 m long passes a man, running at 6 kmph in the direction opposite to that of the train, in 6 seconds. The speed of the train is
Correct
Ans.(a)
Speed of the train relative to man
= (110/6) m/sec.
(110/6 × 18/5) kmph = 66 kmph.
Let the speed of the train be x kmph.
Then, relative speed = (x + 6) kmph.
X + 6 = 66 or x = 60 kmph.
Incorrect
Ans.(a)
Speed of the train relative to man
= (110/6) m/sec.
(110/6 × 18/5) kmph = 66 kmph.
Let the speed of the train be x kmph.
Then, relative speed = (x + 6) kmph.
X + 6 = 66 or x = 60 kmph.

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
A train 108 m long moving at a speed of 50 km/hr crosses another train 112 m long coming from opposite direction in 6 seconds. The speed of the second train is
Correct
Ans.(d)
Let the speed of the second train be x kmph
Relative Speed = (x + 50) kmph
[(x + 50) × 5/18] m/sec.
[(250 + 5x)/18] m/sec.
Distance covered= (108 + 112) = 220 m.
220/[(250 + 5x)/18] = 6 or 250 + 5x = 660
or x = 82 kmph
Incorrect
Ans.(d)
Let the speed of the second train be x kmph
Relative Speed = (x + 50) kmph
[(x + 50) × 5/18] m/sec.
[(250 + 5x)/18] m/sec.
Distance covered= (108 + 112) = 220 m.
220/[(250 + 5x)/18] = 6 or 250 + 5x = 660
or x = 82 kmph

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
A train B speeding with 120 kmph crosses another train C, running in the same direction in 2 minutes. If the lengths of the trains B and C be 100 m and 200m respectively, what is the speed of the train C?
Correct
Ans.(a)
Let the speed of train C be x kmph.
Speed of B relative to C = (120 – x)
= [(120 – x) × (5/18)] m/sec
[(600-5x) / 18] m/sec
Distance covered = (100 + 200)m = 300 m.
300/ [(600 – 5x)/18] = 120 => 5400
= 120(600 – 5x) => x = 111.
Incorrect
Ans.(a)
Let the speed of train C be x kmph.
Speed of B relative to C = (120 – x)
= [(120 – x) × (5/18)] m/sec
[(600-5x) / 18] m/sec
Distance covered = (100 + 200)m = 300 m.
300/ [(600 – 5x)/18] = 120 => 5400
= 120(600 – 5x) => x = 111.

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
Two trains travel in opposite directions at 36 kmph and 45 kmph and a man sitting in slower train passes the faster train in 8 seconds. The length of the faster train is
Correct
Ans.(d)
Relative speed = (36 + 54) km/hr
= (81 × 5/18) m/sec.
= (45/2) m/sec.
Length of train = (45/2 × 8) m = 180 m.
Incorrect
Ans.(d)
Relative speed = (36 + 54) km/hr
= (81 × 5/18) m/sec.
= (45/2) m/sec.
Length of train = (45/2 × 8) m = 180 m.
