Information
Considering the alarming importance of CSAT in UPSC CSE Prelims exam and with enormous requests we received recently, InsightsIAS has started Daily CSAT Test to ensure students practice CSAT Questions on a daily basis. Regular Practice would help one overcome the fear of CSAT too.
We are naming this initiative as Insta– DART – Daily Aptitude and Reasoning Test. We hope you will be able to use DART to hit bull’s eye in CSAT paper and comfortably score 100+ even in the most difficult question paper that UPSC can give you in CSP-2021. Your peace of mind after every step of this exam is very important for us.
Looking forward to your enthusiastic participation (both in sending us questions and solving them on daily basis on this portal).
Wish you all the best ! 🙂

Question 1 of 5
1. Question
If a times the a term of an A.P. is equal to b times the b term, find the (a + b)th times the bth term, find the (a+b) th term.
Correct
Ans-a
Identify an AP which satisfies the given condition. Suppose we are talking about the second and third terms of the AP.
Then an AP with second term 3 and third term 2 satisfies the condition.
A times the a” term = b times the b” term.
In this case the value of a = 2 and b =3.
Hence, for the (a + b” term, we have to find the 5th term.
It is clear that the 5 term of the AP must be zero.
Check the other three options to see whether any option gives 0 when a= 2 and b= 3.
Since none of the options b, c or d gives zero for this particular value, option (a) is correct,

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
A number 28 is divided into four parts that are in AP such that the product of the first and fourth is to the product of the second and third is 5: 6. Find the smallest part.
Correct
Ans-b
Since the four parts of the number are in AP and their sum is 28, the average of the four parts must be 7. Looking at the options for the smallest part, Only the value of 4 fits in, as it leads us to think of the AP 4, 6, 8, 10. In this case, the ratio of the product of the first and fourth (4x 10) to the product of first and second (6x 8) are in 5: 6 ratio.

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
Find the value of the expression: 1- 3 +5-7… to 100 terms.
Correct
Ans-b
View: 1-3+ 5 -7+9-11 ……. 100 terms as(1 – 3) + (5 7) + (9-11). 50 terms. Hence, -2 + -2+ 2 50 terms 50x-2=-100. Option (b) is correct.

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
If a clock strikes once at 12 A.M., twice at 1 A.M., thrice at 2 A.M. and so on, how many times will the clock be struck in the course of 3 days?
Correct
Ans-b
In a period of l day or 24 hours the clock would strike 1 +2+3+…+23 276 times. In the course of 3 days the clock would strike 276 x 3 828. Option (b) is correct.

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
What will be the maximum sum of 54, 52, 50,…..?
Correct
Ans-c
Since this is a decreasing A.P. with first term positive, the maximum sum will occur upto the point where the progression remains non-negative. 54, 52, 50, ……0
Hence, 28 terms x 27 =756. Option (c) is correct.
