Ethics question :
1. The world is suffering worst pandemic which is considered to be possibly from a wildlife source. Also, multiple studies have unanimously come to a conclusion that minimum three-fourth of infectious diseases are caused by animal and other living creatures. These are called Zoonotic diseases.
Considering this, now worldwide we see mounting support for a new way of life and approach to public health. It is called ‘one health’ approach. Accordingly, we cannot separate well-being of humans and other creatures of the ecology and the health of humans and others are integrated.
This needs changes to human interaction with animals. It has implications for forest clearance, food safety industry, meat industry, trade in goods of wildlife that were minimal and allowed till date.
Now the whole gamut of business interests and consumer choices gets affected if we move to one health approach. So, lobby groups have already ensured they convince the Minister for Environment to keep any plans to adopt one health approach on hold.
As a Secretary of this Ministry, what will be the course of action you suggest to your Minister?
2. You are the Superintendent of Police (SP). Your district has largest unemployment level in the State. The situation is marred by the pandemic.
