Ethics question :

Case study

You have been working in a private organization since two decades. You have risen up in the ranks to become the head of the local branch since you joined. You command respect from your colleagues because of the ethical way in which you have conducted yourself. One of your responsibilities as the branch manager is signing off on the recruits who have been shortlisted for vacancies which are available in the office.

Two shortlisted candidates’ files have been sent to you. One of the candidates is a person who has studied in one of the topmost colleges in the country and possesses impressive work experience. On the other hand, the second candidate has studied in a college which has reasonable academic accolades associated with it. Furthermore, he does not possess the impressive work experience as the other candidate. The reason for this is because he was involved in helping his family in their primary occupation of agriculture since his father fell ill and lost his physical strength.

Before you could take a decision on the matter, you received a call from one of your relatives who requested the latter of the candidate to be given the job and conveyed to you about his dire economic situation and the dire necessity of job for him. When you asked for opinion from the person who took the interview of these two candidates, he opined that both the candidates possess the same level of intelligence; however, he prefers the first one because of his work experience over the other.

In this context, answer the following questions,

1. Who are the stakeholders involved in this case? Identify the ethical challenges for you in this situation (250 words)

2. Do you believe giving job to the candidate with lesser experience is unethical considering his economic situation? (250 words)
