Question 1 of 5
1. Question
Out of a total of 120 musicians in a chub, 5% can play all three instruments, guitar, violin and flute It so happens that the number of musicians who can play any two and only two of the above instruments is 30. 1The number of musicians who can play the guitar alone is 40. What is the total number of those who can play violin alone or flute alone?
Correct
Answer : b
Given information may be represented by following Venn diagram.
Let the sets G V and F represent the persons who can play guitar, violin and flute, respectively.
Now,
n(G ᴗ V ᴗ F)=120
n(GᴖVᴖF) = 5% of 120
= 6
Let us decompose the sets into various distinct regions and label them using numbers I to 7 as above. So,
n(7) = 6
And n ( 4 ᴗ 5ᴗ6) = 30
And n (1) = 40
We need to determine n (2ᴗ3).
Since, 120 = n (1)+n(2)+n(3) +n(4ᴗ5ᴗ6)+n(7)
120 = 40 +n(2ᴗ3)+30+6
n(2ᴗ3) = 44
So, number of musicians who can play violin alone or flute alone = 44.

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
The given diagram shows the number of students who failed in an examination comprising papers in English, Hindi and Mathematics. The total number of students who took the test is 500. What is the percentage of students who failed in atleast two subjects?
Correct
Answer : b
Number of students who failed Hindi and English = 10.
Number of students who failed in English and Mathematics = 12.
Number of students who failed in Mathematics and Hindi= 12.
Number of students who failed in Mathematics, English and Hindi = 5.
So, total number of students who failed in atleast two subjects = number of students failed in any two subjects+ number of students failed in 3 subjects
= 10+12+ 12+5
= 39
So, percentage of students failed in atleast 2 subjects = (39/500)´100 = 7.8
Incorrect
