Question 3 of 5
3. Question
Let A3BC and DE2F be four-digit numbers where each letter represents a different digit greater than 3. If the sum of the numbers is 15902, then what Is the difference between the values of A and D?
Correct
Answer : c
This can be solved by hit and trial method. The sum of C and F should be such that the unit digit should be 2. Let,
C+F = 8 + 4 =12
Hence, C = 8
And F = 4
Similarly, [(B +2) + 1] should have unit digit 0.
Let,
[(B+2) +(1)] = 10
↓
[carry from (C + F)]
Hence, B = 7
Similarly, (3+E) +1 should have unit digit 9, Let,
[(3+E) + 1] = 9
Hence, E = 5
Lastly, A and D should have sum equal to 15.
i.e A+ D = 15
or 6+9= 15
Now, A3BC + DE2F
= 6378 + 9524= 15902
So, difference between A and D
=9-6-3
Hence, correct option would be (c).
