Question 1 of 5
1. Question
In an office, 40% of the staff is female.40% of the female and 60% of the male voted for me. The percentage of votes I got was
Correct
Answer : d
Let total number of staff be 100.
Female staff = 40
Male staff = (100 – 40) = 60
Votes cast by females = (40/100) * 40 = 16
Votes cast by males = (60/100)*60 = 36
Votes cast by both (males + females) = 16 + 36 = 52
∴Percentage votes obtained = 52%

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
Ram sells his goods 25% cheaper than Shyam and 25% dearer than Hari. How much percentage is Hari’s goods cheaper than Shyan?
Correct
Answer : c
Let selling price of goods by Shyam be Rs. 100
∴ Selling price of goods by Ram=Rs. 75
125% of selling price of goods by Hari = 75
Selling price of goods by Hari = (100/125)*75 = Rs. 60
So, Hari’s goods are cheaper than Shyam’s
goods by (40/100)*100% = 40%
Incorrect
Answer : c
Let selling price of goods by Shyam be Rs. 100
∴ Selling price of goods by Ram=Rs. 75
125% of selling price of goods by Hari = 75
Selling price of goods by Hari = (100/125)*75 = Rs. 60
So, Hari’s goods are cheaper than Shyam’s
goods by (40/100)*100% = 40%

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
A reduction of 20% in the price of wheat enables a person to buy 3.5 kg more wheat for Rs. 770. The original price of rice is
Correct
Answer : a
Let original price be x.
New price per kg = [80/100 * (x )] = Rs. [(4x)/5]
According to the question,
[770/(4x/5)] – [770/x] = 3.5
(3850/4x)-(770/x) =7/2
(3850 – 3080) = 14x
14x = 770
∴X = (770/14) = Rs.55
∴Original price of the wheat is 55 per kg.
Incorrect
Answer : a
Let original price be x.
New price per kg = [80/100 * (x )] = Rs. [(4x)/5]
According to the question,
[770/(4x/5)] – [770/x] = 3.5
(3850/4x)-(770/x) =7/2
(3850 – 3080) = 14x
14x = 770
∴X = (770/14) = Rs.55
∴Original price of the wheat is 55 per kg.

Question 5 of 5
5. Question
Fresh grapes contain 80% water, while dry grapes contain 10% water. If the weight of dry grapes is 500 kg, then what is its total weight when it is fresh?
Correct
Answer : d
Let the weight of fresh grapes be x.
Quantity of water in it = (80/100) *x = (4x/5)
Quantity of pulp in it = [(x – (4x/5) ] = x/5
Quantity of water in 500 kg dry grapes = (10/100)´500 = 50 kg
∴ Quantity of pulp in it = (500-50) = 450kg
(x/5 )= 450
∴X = 2250 kg
