Question 4 of 5
4. Question
On a shelf, the first row contains 25% more books than the second row and the third row contains 25% less books than the second row, if the total number of books contained in all the rows is 600, then find the number of books in the first row.
Correct
Answer : a
Let the second row contain 100 books. Then, the first row would contain 125 books and the third row would contain 75 books. The total number of books would be 100 + 125 + 75 = 300. But this number is given as 600 which means that the total number of books would be double the assumed value for each row. Thus, the first row would contain 125 x 2 = 250 books.
Incorrect
Answer : a
Let the second row contain 100 books. Then, the first row would contain 125 books and the third row would contain 75 books. The total number of books would be 100 + 125 + 75 = 300. But this number is given as 600 which means that the total number of books would be double the assumed value for each row. Thus, the first row would contain 125 x 2 = 250 books.

5. Question
An ore contains 25% of an alloy that has 90% iron. Other than this, in the remaining 75% of the ore, there is no iron. How many kilograms of the ore are needed to obtain 60 kg of pure iron?
Correct
Answer : d
Since the only iron contained in the ore is 90% of 25%, the net iron percentage would be 22.5%. Thus, 60 kg should be 22.5% of the ore 60/0.225 = 266.66
