We have many reasons to think we won’t pass this exam. Our command on Optionals is poor, or not being able to complete the Mains papers on time, or consistent poor scores in Pre-Mock tests, or unfinished GS syllabus etc. The above reasons sit deep inside the subconscious mind and create a fear of failure. Over time, internally, we start doubting our ability to clear this exam. Thus a major source of stress and anxiety.
But there are ample reasons available which can take you to success. You might be undermining them. Let’s identify one by one:
- Being Alive: taking birth itself is a great probability of success inside the womb. But we got born, grew up and still alive. We are still breathing the Prana-Vayu. We should feel blessed and thank our parents for our Life til now. Once we are alive we have a great possibility to do anything in this beautiful Life.
- Physical capability: We have all our four limbs and five senses working. Many unfortunate people are clearing UPSC CSE every year despite physical challenges.
- Educated: Our parents have given this beautiful asset to us. They have sacrificed their life to give us a good education. We are in a creamy layer of the youth of this nation. We can read, write and analyse the deep subject matters from various fields.
- Dream: Having a strong conviction and dreaming to become a Civil Servant is not an easy choice. You dived into this journey by sacrificing the comfortable assured career path which your peers are doing now. You have challenged the naysayers of society. You have that Courage means you can reach the goal.
- Efforts: Until now you have put a lot of efforts on this path. You have covered the fundamentals, read many books, attended many mock tests and faced the real exams. You have understood the dynamics of the process. You have come closer to the goal. You are in a much advantageous position.
- Existence: The existential force or god would never disappoint those who are doing sincere and intense hard work. Success may be delayed but not be denied.
The external world may say: ‘you don’t have Group-1 parents to support and guide you systematically’; ‘you have failed in two/ three attempts. This exam is not for you’; ‘You have wasted your age and parent’s money. Enough is enough. It’s time to quit’ and so on.
But you should have hundreds of solid reasons to convince the self ‘why I can achieve what I dream’. Find your unique strengths and keep telling yourself. It will help you to conquer the fear of failure. It helps you to be a confident fighter.
Because you have to win this battle. No matter what! Come what may!
