Question 1 of 5
1. Question
The average of 10 numbers is 30. Later on, it was found that by mistake two items 15 and 23 were misread as 51 and 32. Find the correct average.
Correct
Answer: a) 25.5
Wrong total / 10 = Wrong average = 30
∴ Wrong total = 30 × 10 = 300
Correct total = Wrong total – 51 – 32 + 15 + 23
= 300 – 83 + 38
= 255
Correct average = 255 / 10 = 25.5
Incorrect
Answer: a) 25.5
Wrong total / 10 = Wrong average = 30
∴ Wrong total = 30 × 10 = 300
Correct total = Wrong total – 51 – 32 + 15 + 23
= 300 – 83 + 38
= 255
Correct average = 255 / 10 = 25.5

Question 2 of 5
2. Question
A man earned ₹ 6,435, ₹ 6,927,rs6855, ₹ 7,230, and ₹ 6562 in 5 consecutive months. In order to have an average earning of ₹ 6500 how much should he earn in the 6th month?
Correct
Answer: a) ₹ 4,991
(Earnings in 5 months + Earning in 6th month) / 6 = ₹ 6,500
6,435 + 6,927 + 6,855 + 7,230 + 6,562 + 6th month earning = 6,500 × 6
34,009 + 6th month earning = 39,000
∴ 6th month earning = 39,000 – 34,009
= ₹ 4,991
Incorrect
Answer: a) ₹ 4,991
(Earnings in 5 months + Earning in 6th month) / 6 = ₹ 6,500
6,435 + 6,927 + 6,855 + 7,230 + 6,562 + 6th month earning = 6,500 × 6
34,009 + 6th month earning = 39,000
∴ 6th month earning = 39,000 – 34,009
= ₹ 4,991

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
The average age of 30 soldiers is 25 years. In them, the average age of the first 15 soldiers is 24 years. And the average age of the last 14 soldiers is 26 years. What is the age of the 16th soldier?
Correct
Answer: c) 26 years
Total age of all 30 soldiers / 30 = 25 years
∴ Total age of all 30 soldiers = 25 × 30 = 750 – – – – – – – – – (I)
Total age of the first 15 soldiers / 15 = 24 years
∴ Total age of the first 15 soldiers = 24 × 15 = 360 – – – – – – – – – (II)
Total age of the last 14 soldiers / 14 = 26 years
∴ Total age of the last 14 soldiers = 26 × 14 = 364 – – – – – – – – – (II)
Equation I = Equation II + Equation III + the age of the 16th soldier
750 = 360 + 364 + 16th soldier’s age
The age of the 16th soldier = 750 – 724
= 26 years
Incorrect
750 = 360 + 364 + 16th soldier’s age
The age of the 16th soldier = 750 – 724
= 26 years

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
There are 25 students in a college. When a woman is replaced by a man with 72 kg, the average weight was increased by 1.2 kg. find the weight of the outgoing woman.
Correct
Answer: a) 42 kg
Let the average weight of 25 students be ‘x’ kg.
∴ Total weight of 25 students = 25x
(25x – Weight of outgoing woman + 72) / 25 = x + 1.2
25x + 72 – weight of outgoing woman = 25× (x + 1.2)
= 25x + 30
72 – Weight of outgoing woman = 30
∴ Weight of outgoing woman = 72 – 30 = 42 kg
Incorrect
Answer: a) 42 kg
Let the average weight of 25 students be ‘x’ kg.
∴ Total weight of 25 students = 25x
(25x – Weight of outgoing woman + 72) / 25 = x + 1.2
25x + 72 – weight of outgoing woman = 25× (x + 1.2)
= 25x + 30
72 – Weight of outgoing woman = 30
∴ Weight of outgoing woman = 72 – 30 = 42 kg
