New Initiative: Revision Through MCQs (RTM) – Revision of Current Affairs Made Interesting
As revision is the key to success in this exam, we are starting a new initiative where you will revise current affairs effectively through MCQs (RTM) that are solely based on Insights Daily Current Affairs.
These questions will be different than our regular current affairs quiz. These questions are framed to TEST how well you have read and revised Insights Current Affairs on daily basis.
We will post nearly 10 MCQs every day which are based on previous day’s Insights current affairs. Tonight we will be posting RTM questions on the Insights current affairs of October 3, 2019.
The added advantage of this initiative is it will help you solve at least 20 MCQs daily (5 Static + 5 CA Quiz + 10 RTM) – thereby helping you improve your retention as well as elimination and guessing skills.

Question 1 of 10
1. Question
4 pointsConsider the following statements:
-
- Body waves travel through the interior of the Earth.
- P-waves are compression waves.
- S-waves only propagate in solid material.
Which of the given above statements is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (d)
Explanation:
- Stat1: Body waves travel through the interior of the Earth. On the other hand, surface waves propagate only at the interface between two different media, like the interface between Earth and atmosphere (i.e. the surface of the Earth).
- Stat2: Body waves are of two types: Primary waves (also called P-waves, or pressure waves) and Secondary waves (S-waves, or shear waves).
- P-waves are compression waves. They can propagate in solid or liquid material.
- S-waves are shear waves. They only propagate in solid material.
- Stat3: By studying the trajectories of S-waves, scientists could prove that the Earth had a liquid outer core.

- Antigens stimulate the production of antibodies.
Which of the given above statements is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (a)
Explanation:
- Stat3: Antigens are substances which, when introduced into the body, stimulate the production of antibodies. There are three types of antigen presenting cells in the body: macrophages, dendritic cells and В cells.
- Stat2: B cells, also known as B lymphocytes, are a type of white blood cell of the lymphocyte subtype. They function in the humoral immunity component of the adaptive immune system by secreting antibodies.
- Stat1: Antibodies are proteins produced and secreted by B cells. They bind to foreign substances that invade the body, such as pathogens. The term “antibody” refers to its function, which is to bind to an antigen. Another name for this protein molecule is immunoglobulin.

Question 5 of 10
5. Question
1 pointsConsider the following statements about Fly ash:
-
- Fly ash is produced by coal-fired electric and steam generating plants.
- At present, 90% of the fly ash is being utilised in India but the target is for 100% utilisation of the fly ash.
Which of the given above statements is/are correct?
Correct
Ans: (a)
Explanation:
- Stat1: Fly ash is produced by coal-fired electric and steam generating plants. Typically, coal is pulverized and blown with air into the boiler’s combustion chamber where it immediately ignites, generating heat and producing a molten mineral residue. Boiler tubes extract heat from the boiler, cooling the flue gas and causing the molten mineral residue to harden and form ash. Coarse ash particles, referred to as bottom ash or slag, fall to the bottom of the combustion chamber, while the lighter fine ash particles, termed fly ash, remain suspended in the flue gas. Prior to exhausting the flue gas, fly ash is removed by particulate emission control devices, such as electrostatic precipitators or filter fabric baghouses
- Stat2: At present, 63% of the fly ash is being utilised and target is for 100% utilisation of the fly ash. There is need for education and awareness generation. Source

Question 9 of 10
9. Question
1 pointsWhich of the following statements is/are not correct about Primordial black holes (PBHs)?
Correct
Ans: (b)
Explanation: Here Directive Word Is Not Correct!!
- Primordial black holes are a hypothetical type of black hole that formed soon after the Big Bang. In the early universe, high densities and heterogeneous conditions could have led sufficiently dense regions to undergo gravitational collapse, forming black holes.
- Yakov Borisovich Zel’dovich and Igor Dmitriyevich Novikov in 1966 first proposed the existence of such black holes.
- The theory behind their origins was first studied in depth by Stephen Hawking in 1971.
- Since primordial black holes did not form from stellar gravitational collapse, their masses can be far below stellar mass (c. 2×1030 kg). Hawking calculated that primordial black holes could weigh as little as 10−8 kg.
