The Rajya Sabha congratulated Aruna Budda Reddy on winning a Bronze medal at the Gymnastics World Cup in Melbourne last month.

  • Aruna, in the Women’s Vault event, made history by becoming the first Indian gymnast to bag an individual medal at the tournament.
  • Making a reference in the House, Chairman said, the outstanding accomplishment of Aruna Reddy is a matter of great pride for the entire nation.

The Andaman Nicobar command is organising biennial get-together of foreign navies, called Milan at Port Blair.

  • The command has been organising the get-together since 1995.
  • The theme of the Milan is friendship across the seas.
  • Altogether sixteen countries are participating in the biennial exercise.
  • Aim is to enhance regional cooperation for combating Unlawful Activities at sea.
  • An international maritime seminar cultural and social exchanges, band concert, ship visit, sports and city parade are the highlights of Milan 2018.  
  • For the first time Oman is also participating in this exercise.

 

  1. The government constitutes a group to suggest necessary changes in the policy for Special Economic Zone SEZs
  • The SEZs are export hubs and contribute significantly to the country’s total outbound shipments.
  • Developers and units of these zones enjoy certain fiscal and non-fiscal incentives like no requirement of licence for import and no routine examination by customs authorities of export and import cargo.
  • They also enjoy direct and indirect tax benefits.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has invited suggestions on rationalizing curriculum for classes 1 to 12 to ensure the all-round development of students.

  • The objective of seeking suggestions is to make the content more balanced in various subjects offered as prescribed by NCERT and CBSE.
  • There is urgent need to rationalize the school curriculum because the objective of education is to prepare a good human being from the system.

  • Chilean film ‘A Fantastic Woman’ won the Oscar for the Best Foreign language film.
