Question 2 of 5
2. Question
1 pointsWhich one of the following statements about the revolutionary from Karnataka – Basaveshwara – is/are correct?
- He established the Anubhavamantapa, which was a common forum for all, to discuss the prevailing socio-economic-political problems
- He put forth the concept of equal distribution of wealth to the society
Select the correct answer using the code given below:
Correct
Solution: c.
- Anubhavamantapa, which was established by him was a common forum for all, including downtrodden, untouchables and women to discuss about the prevailing problems of socio, economic and political strata including religious and spiritual principles along with personal problems. Hence it was an open platform for all those activists who involved themselves in bringing a radical change in the contemporary society. Discussions here were written in the form of “Vachanas”.
- Basaveshwara gave two very important socio-economic principles. They are- “Kayaka” (Work: Divine work) and “Dasoha” (Distrubution: Equal distribution). According to this, every individual of the society should take up the job of his choice and perform it with all sincerity. All members of the society are labourers (Kayakajeevigalu). Kayaka is not mere a work, but it is the way of realising God. It teaches the concept of dignity of labour.
- Kayaka must be followed by an accurate income. The income should not be more or less. There must be an equal income for equal work. The worker (Kayakajeevi) may lead his day-today life by his hard earned income. But he should not preserve the money or property for tomorrow. He must utilise the surplus money for the society and poors. This concept is called –“Dasoha”. Thus by advocating this principle, Basaveshwara gave the concept of equal distribution of wealth to the society.

Improvisation: PIB: Mann ki baat address; PIB: Basava Jayanthi 2017;

Question 3 of 5
3. Question
1 pointsIn recent times, the Election Commission (EC) has countermanded elections on the ground of voters being bribed with money. The power of the EC to take this action is derived directly from
Correct
Solution: b.
The same question was posted here a few months ago.
- In 2016, the EC, in an unprecedented step, was forced to cancel elections to two Tamil Nadu Assembly seats on the ground of voters being bribed with money during the recent campaign. The poll watchdog had to resort to Article 324 of the Constitution, which is the source of its extraordinary powers, to cancel elections in the two seats. The recent R.K. Nagar Assembly by-poll too was cancelled by the EC under its Constitutional powers for the same reason.
- Section 58A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, empowers the poll watchdog to adjourn or cancel elections on the ground of booth-capturing. Section 58A was introduced in the 1980s when booth-capturing was rampant during elections in many parts of the country.
The EC can use its constitutional powers under Article 324 to countermand a poll over use of money power, but it wants the power to be vested to it under law. The logic is that it does not want to use its constitutional powers too frequently.

Question 4 of 5
4. Question
1 pointsWith reference to the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 consider the following statements:
- Promoters of projects that are ongoing on the date of commencement of the act are exempt from registering themselves with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority
- Punishment for violations of certain provisions of the act includes imprisonment
- The account to be maintained by the promoter, in order to deposit 70% of the collections, is a separate bank account and not an escrow account
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Correct
Solution: d.
Statement 1 is incorrect. Within three months of the act coming into force, ongoing projects too must register themselves with the RERA.
