Today’s Topic

In India, Civil Society and NGO’s (Domestic and Foreign Funded) are Acting as Roadblocks to Development

Though the issue was concerned with only foreign funded NGOs, some have also argued that there are certain NGOs along with civil society groups are stalling development processes in India. The issue is about rights versus development – livelihood rights, right to good environment, right to clean cities and villages, right to clean water etc.

Do you think it is necessary to stall certain projects to save few villages or few wild animals? Is development really a victim of rights activism or inefficient governance? Is development possible without ever hurting some segments of society and environment? What is the role of civil society and NGOs in development processes?

Looking forward to read your views and discussions on these issues. Thank you.
