What is d diffrnce btwn examine and criticaly examine? plz help me guys

        • Jadeyn

Critically Examine: Give your verdict as to what extent a statement or findings within a piece of research are true, or to what extent you agree with them. Provide evidence taken from a wide range of sources which both agree with and contradict an argument. Come to a final conclusion, basing your decision on what you judge to be the most important factors and justify how you have made your choice.

Examine: Look in close detail and establish the key facts and important issues surrounding a topic. This should be a critical evaluation and you should try and offer reasons as to why the facts and issues you have identified are the most important, as well as explain the different ways they could be construed.

  • Boooga

Thank you for the great initiative sir.
Sir, why dont you have a forum for your website where the answerwriting section is attached. As the number of comments is ever increasing( 400+), it is becoming unmanagable to scroll through all. A better upvote, downvote system along the lines of sites such as reddit, or digg, which will help filter through the answers, as well as scroll through all questions.
A forum will also allow discussion and other related engagements.

  • ~DEVANAMPRIYA~

hey friends i have got many suggestions from people to improve the english language can u provide any detail or plans to do the same (both writing and speaking) it will be beneficial for many of us if #vinay sir give us some suggestions on this problem…thnx in advance

    • Arun Sharma

always keep dictionary while reading any article/books.
Make the list of words which u find hard and get its meaning and keep on adding words.
      revise the list weekly.
as for speaking the solution is simple converse with those who know the language.
tell them beforehand to correct you in conversations.

      • DEVANAMPRIYA

thanx for the advice sir i’ll do the same thnx for your response

        • Sanket Sudke

Use a mobile app (if u r using mobile) or a dictionary software(if u r using pc or laptop) which saves the word that you have seacrched as ‘history’ and is able to rank words on the basis of number of times you searched the word.

Focus on the ‘most frequently searched’ words and try to memorize and use them.

    • 1. The most effective method would be ‘To think in English’. Thinking may include talking to yourself. If you dont believe just try it for a week. You’ll get exactly what you require.
      2. Try to implement the ‘English Only’ norm in your schedule. Try talking and listening English. If you are watching a movie read the subtitles. If you are listening English songs, read or try to interpret the lyrics.
      3. Speak in English with a person who will correct you. Learn from it and then you can improve your English by vocab and stuff like that.

      • Praveen

Super thought Pratik 🙂 it really works.. I did the same and was benefited a lot.

    • ram

Writing in a dairy what u did every day will force u to think in english. The first few days will be tough but u will improve drastically from thereon.

    • aashish 2000

Dude, I feel that you are already good in English. Just practice the adverbs and adjectives which you can replace in your communication. That’s enough. If you can speak you must write.
      All the best.

  • Vasanth prabhu

    YOU HELP US A LOT………………THANK U FOR UR SUPPORT………….

  • Radhika

sir 2015 chalu ho gay hai .. Januar 2015 kijiye

  • siddharth

Thanks for every effort that you have put here. Doing a huge favor for us. God bless you sir..

  • Arun Sharma

It takes me around 2-3 hours to read the newspaper and write few answers on insights.
Does it take evry1 same tym?Hw do u guys manage the tym for it?
I tend to visit insights at night but that leaves the option of geting my answer reviewed since most of answers are answered in morning itself.
Any suggsetion would be appreciated 🙂

    • Sanket Sudke

I have recently started answer writing and I am able to type hardly 2-3 answers in 2-3 hours. Maybe after practice, the time will reduce.

Try to self review your answers. You can get a lot of factual data by reading others answers. Try to edit your answers and add those points. Stick to word limit and follow the ‘intro-body-conclusion’ format or the point format.

      • Jeeves

same problem plus reading all the articles takes a lot of time, I think comparing our answers with the best answers (self review) is the best as most of the time the answer does not get reviewed, what do you say and suggest?

    • prvn

      same here yaar, suggest something…………..

    • Asheesh Kumar

      केवल पॉइंट वाइज लिखे .
      अनावश्यक विस्तार से बचे

    • aashish 2000

Bro… It depends how long have you been practising writing? Constraint as time managed by perfect practice. Use adverbs and adjectives which reduce the length and increase crisp of your answer.
      All the best…

  • The Imp

Sir is there any plan to include paper II in this program at any stage.

  • sam

    thank u so much insights

  • savita sane

Thank you sir.. I am residing in Singapore and preparing for civil services, I am preparing for exam through your portal.. thanks a lot sir. You are helping a lot especially me … 🙂

  • Anurag Pundir

Hi All, Please suggest whether I should give 2 hours to read hindu newspaper(hardcopyof it) or i should give the time to insights questions and thus reading all the news related to the questions. Does this cover all the news and is better than reading The hindu newspaper.??

    Anurag

  • EXODUS

insights undercover sir’s waiting for weekly compilation of current events from 22 dec to 27 dec 14,

  • lucky

the answers provided by the undercover group in the weekly compilation can be taken as standard/up to the mark of upsc answers??

    • Radhika

      no

  • Gopi

who to chose the optional paper

  • Pria

Is anyone finding it difficult to squeeze in Answer writing , news paper reading, prelim test series prep, optional study all in one day!?! how do u tackle all this without breaking it into parts, which we are advised not to. Insights , it ll be great if u can reply, otherwise my co aspirants kindly enlighten me! Thanks

    • sai

      same problem!!!!!!
i even have a job to take care off 🙁

    • AJ

im also facing same problem….I don’t understand how to manage time with all this stuff, most of the time spent in reading news paper only to frame the ans.
      insight pls reply if possible….

      • Pria

Especially with the prelims test series also. All getting muddled up!

    • Its better to write 2 answer and make notes of rest of the articles and read whole Hindu by urself… It would take 3 to 3 and half hours.

      • Pria

        Thanks for the feedback!

      • Sanket Sudke

        Thanks. Very nice suggestion.

      • tinyryan

        thanks.

    • aashish 2000

Pria, all you have to do is write the answers before you attempt online. See the length and time of each. Underline the main points according to question. Just elaborate those while attempting. Practice insane.
      All the best….

  • DEVI

    Hello Insights and aspirants,

I have a small query..Could any of u give me an idea of the space being given in the UPSC Mains answer sheet??It would help us to finetune answer writing and improvise on it…:)

    • Radhika

UPSC in 2013 has uploaded the mock question cum answer sheet… download it and get it printed…. u will have exact idea of the size..

    • Abhishek V

      from Aug 14

  • Abhishek

    Superb!!!

  • Siva A

    Hi.
my Background: new to Civil services and working in IT.
can some one pls suggest on the following ..
How to start ? reading basic books? I have joined insight test series as well..( not taken any test yet)
Or just following the sight on Secure -2015 topics ?
Or need to read Hindu paper ?

    Thanks ..

  • yo

hey can u provide weekly compilations separately. unable to locate them.

  • Harsh Gokhale

This is one idea I would like to suggest. Generally every week has a recurrent trend, some major and some minor. Can a question paper be released asking questions for the week.

For e.g there were mutiple editorials, views, opinions and news about the ‘land ordinance’ running through one week. Similarly there would be other topics as well. One full question paper (like a 3 hour set) could be released. It will help us to also write answers within a time constraint.

This might have been suggested before. I just thought I re-flag it.

  • gautam

can anyone please tell me how to follow or work according to this program,, m totally new…where to start from

  • tyrrion lanister

Sir, pls pls release 2015 secure 1st week(22-27 dec) compilation. Waiting for it.

  • hemant

Our undercover group plz compile from 5 to 10jan if possible..i m waiting it since yesterday..ur work helped me lots..plz continue if possible…thank u very much….

    • What if everyone start waiting like you and stop writing? or stop reading posted answers?

Basically we are against compiling answers precisely for this reason. Hope you got the point.

Please think from our perspective too. Thank you.

      • hemant

Thank u sir for rply…i got the point…bt i mention because i think this helps aspirants who r not regular due to some reason as job or anything else as me….sorry sir If i m wrong…
Bt i m highly thankful to insight…thank u sir for this support….i will try to manage it….
        Thank u very much sir…..

  • Karan Yadav

Halo friends., I m new here and just come to know about I insight.

  • FSwap

wil paricipate in ans writing 2morrow.

  • neetu

    neetu

please guide for optional- geography or history…

  • Rohit Kumar

Sir, Beside arranging all on date-wise, it would be better if you categorise it paper-wise all questions of GS Paper-1 ,GS Paper-2….

  • Sanket Sudke

The Insights questions (especially ethics) are very good.

No need to join any GS test series (costing Rs 20,000 and above) just answer a few questions everyday and before the exam solve previous years UPSC papers.

No need to join a class (costing Rs 1 lakh and above) for GS ‘notes’ and guidance. Just save your answers in MS Word file (name of word file=date on which you have written answers) along with the topic name and question. Even if you write (or type) 3-4 answers everyday for 200 days you would have studied, revised (,answered) and made notes of 600 to 800 topics (or subtopics) covering a large part of the GS portion.

Thank you guys for the great job you are doing.

  • ashish valecha

Can INSIGHT or anyone else suggest how can it be possible in a day?
Job from 9:00AM to 6:00PM (only office hours) + commuting 2-3 hours + reading newspaper (thehindi – 1.5-2 hrs) daily + preparing for subject daily and making notes (2-3 hrs) + revision daily (1 hrs).
from where can I find the time to go through EPW +Business Standard+Indian express+going through INSIGHT’s schedule???

  • suman

sir pls provide us a time table so that we can prepare for prelims+mains simultaneously..

  • suman

pls anyone suggest me.. I have started preparation.. but I never achieve my daily tarcet.. so you pls suggest me any strategy for completing this vast syllabus before prelims 2015

  • HappyNeIAS

Can anyone please tell me how to approach answer writing? I mean what should one answer when asked:

    1. Examine.

    2. Critically analyse.

    3. Comment.

    4. Critically examine.

    5. Elucidate.

etc.. when and where is the conclusion required?

Please fellow aspirants and insights team reply to my question…

  • Aditi

People preparing for prelims, check the Facebook page Target IAS 2015. It’s by some toppers of the 2012 batch. The questions they post everyday are pretty good !

  • Aaron

Same here dude, but nothing comes easy
we cant go through all of this in a day
just keep a target of 3 questions per day. Try 1 GS1, 2 , 3 question per day
join prelims, if u haven’t yet.
try to complete at least half of syllabus given in test schedule
i always think to complete large amount on saturday/sunday
but after week long hectic schedule its near impossible
we need to take chances as we are working

    “ALL THE BEST”

Please look into this urgently and stop comment being done by guest or upvoting by guest.

I appeared in interview last year and this year I m waiting for my results.i have joined this site just a few days ago.from my experience in two mains exams I want to share a few lessons with those who write their answers on this site.some of the answers I find here are really fantastic. But the problem I usually find with them that they show no respect for word limit.this is not only dangerous but also makes it impossible to finish the mains paper on time.i am no expert,I am only saying what I feel.what is needed in mains exam is not best answers but good answers within time limit.I would not take names but this seems to be affliciting some badly.sorry,if some one gets hurt.
    All the best aspirants

    • Akash

Just answer every question and make a note of time on average. Practice to write answers for each question within 8 minutes by using adjectives, adverbs precisely. For ex: (they will help you reduce the words) They consice the answer.

    Answer to Q-1

The constitution has provided freedom of belief
and religion as a fundamental right to all the citizens. The culture of tolerance,
respect for each other’s thoughts, religion, rituals, feeling of brotherhood
and being subjects of one nation are necessary for a stable society. It is the
duty of the government to maintain growth and development and provide people
with the basic amenities of life. The atmosphere of hatred and enmity promotes violence,
insecurity and instability which are not conducive for this purpose as it
threatens the safety of public and private assets. Recently, we have seen a
surge in incidents like attacks, conversion by way of promising freebies from
one religion to another and inability of the administration in containing them.
A country cannot be made free from such incidents but it is duty of the government
to curb with adequate and swift response. The problem becomes serious when it fails
to perform its duties. Even some ministers of the government made comments
which were against the spirit of our constitutional values. This created a perception
that government is not serious in stopping these incidents and promoted a sense
of insecurity among some religious groups. The government should firmly prevent
such incidents and promote an atmosphere where county can grow and every
citizen can appropriate fruits of this growth.[219 Words]

The main cause of the rape is
the sick mentality of people who actually commit this crime, in case of such
people their sexual urge further exaggerates due to use of alcohol and
psychotic drugs. People commit this crime again and again as girls always feel
ashamed and hence they do not report such rape cases, apart from it delay in
justice is another reason leading to increase in number of cases. Another
reason is the increasing MNC culture where women have to work up to late night and
lack of security while their way back home. Excessive watching of porn movies
also instill in people a sense repeating the same and hence most people commit
this crime for pleasure without knowing the consequences. Although we have laws
to curb such rape but they are not enough to teach people a lesson or create an
example so that in future other people will be afraid of committing it. Making
a strict law with fast track courts and speedy decision will create fear in
people who are currently not afraid of it and that’s why they commit it again
and again. Also creating example doesn’t mean open prosecution as has been done
in Dimapur (Nagaland), whatever has to be done must be done by judiciary
according to law not by people by taking laws in their hands.

    • You can post. Please go ahead. Thank you.

  • Saurabh

Insight , . I am fully aware that you guys are busy with the efforts. You are already making a huge impact to my studies . 🙂
One suggestion – At least provide study schedule for optional subjects.
It will really be beneficial for people like me who don’t want to join coaching,
Personally , I have been thinking to join geography classes but now I am of the view that following a schedule and answering model questions, like you have provided for the prelims , will be more than sufficient.
Thanks for creating this wonderful platform.

    • Dear Saurabh,

We will come up with that for popular Optionals as soon as Prelims is over. Right now our focus in on Prelims – 2015. We do not want to burden and confuse aspirants with so many things at a time. Hope you understand. 🙂

Thank you for your nice words about website. 🙂

  • Amit Kumawat

    Dear Insight,
I know that probably you might have time constraint to review the answers(as you said in one of the post) as you are also giving time to manage other affairs of this website to help students to prepare for this exam. But I want to suggest that you can give broad outline of every answer at the end of day(though this is too much to ask from a team who is giving most of time to help other students selflessly). This might save your time also and we will have an idea about the answer and can review other’s answers on this basis.
Finally you are doing a great job. We all have respect for you.
    Thanks
    Amit

allocation- Though centre trying to increase allocation through various
measures like National health policy, it still not par with the world where
poor countries spent more on medical services comparing India. Also funds
allocation has fallen over last two years.

    ·
    Private
expenditure- Out of pocket expenditure increasing on daily basis due to poor
conditions and lack of facilities in government hospitals.

    ·
    Less
deaths due to communicable diseases and more from non communicable cases is
    another such finding.

    India
is one of the fastest growing economy still most of its population deprives of
basic medical amenities. India has recorded demographic dividend, if proper
facilities has not been provided, it can’t stake its claim of its young population

  • Mansi Singh

Sir will you be coming up with Secure Mains 2016 programme?

  • Son Bri

Vinay Sir… please.. we beg you dont stop HINDU NEWS ANALYSIS VIDEO initiatve… AND PLEASE POST THAT DAILY,.. PLEASE…
we dont need new initiatives… please sir… there is something called
respect.. and you gain it NOT BY THE NUMBER OF THINGS YOU DO BUT BY THE WAY IN
WHICH YOU DO EACH THING.. sorry sir, but am saying this bcoz OF my utter
desperation AND helplessness .. i am one of the sincere followers of this
site.. and am sorry to say you that u are not doing any good for true students
who are actually (truly following ) depending on your site… IT IS A SHAME
THAT U ARE STARTING NEW INITIATIVES WHEN YOU HAVE NO TIME TO CONTINUE THE
PRESENT WONDERFUL INITIATIVES… imagine a student who has been
viewing ur videos on a daily basis for the past 3 months.. it becomes a part of
our study plan.. and suddenly one day it stops… and then after 1 week
suddenly 5 videos appear… and on some day these videos will stop for ever and
you will start another2-3 initiatives… with what faith we should follow ur
site?… it would be better than those 100 new initiatives , if you continue
one single initiative a whole year.. there is no need to mess things up like
this.. earlier there was optional subject questions daily… one day it
stopped.. then started current affairs… it stopped… then after some months
it restarted.. then there is this lok sabha rajya sabha and all india raDio
    news analysis.. sometimes it stops..
then starts… then it starts again and again it stops.. it is of no benefit .. first i used to follow your rajya sabha initiative.. then it stopped.. ok
lok sabha started.. then now it has become a mix… one day suddenly it
comes… i am sure that those who follow a daily timetable finds it difficult
when suddenly 1 weeks articles are posted together.. i am wondering why you didnt stop secure 2015
saying that you dont have time.. and you could have started another 3 or 4
initiatives also which you could have stopped after 2 months.. thank you for
showing consistency in atleast that initiative, which iam sure is the one and
only one initiative which is benefiting true students who are actually
preparing and will eventuAlly succed.. the one feature in that initiative is
its consistency and continuity.. but am sure you will start something outwordly
soon and will stop “secure” initiative also… also mentionable is
the present current affairs initiative(which is version 2 lol) which you are
atleast posting on the next day… someone who studies sincerely will never
find time to follow all your initiatives.. if you have real mind to help please
show stability and consistency in atleast 4 or 5 initiatives and that would be
truly wonderful.. each day morning we
read that day’s news paper and then we cannot open your site and read last
day’s current affairs.. also we cannot see last week’s hindu news analysis
which you would have posted 1 week later… atleast by god’s grace you are
posting secure questions based on the same day’s newspaper.. thank god..
otherwise that also would have been a waste.. imagine if we get the following things on the same day.. secure questons+ that
day’s current affairs + that day’s news analysis video … how great it would
have been.. and how useful it would have been.. o.k… I agree that you do not
have time to post all these on the same day… “BUT THEN THE SAME PERSON WHO DO
NOT HAVE TIME TO UPDATE HIS PRESENT INITIATIVES ON A DAILY BASIS COMES UP WITH A NEW INITIATIATIVE EACH WEEK…
YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE HELPING US… BUT YOU ARE WRONG..”.. am sure that these
days you would be planning for atleast
10 new initiatives to begin soon…. but please.. please do something that will
actually help real candidates… that is
choosing initiatives which you can actually update daily and sustain for
atleast one year.. new prelims quiz is
amazing… but i do not follow that because am tired of your initiatves.. you
will most probably stop it next month.. you would be thinking that u have done
a great help by posting the compiled secure qstn and answers of last one year
together last week… i Am sure that 100% of your followers would have been thrilled.. but
am sure less than 5% would benefit from what you have done.. we would have
benefitted if you posted those question and answers on that same day instead of
wasting time on 100 other initiatives which you were never going to deliver in
time.. i have lost hope.. but iam still following “secure” initiative
hoping that you will spare atleast that initiative .. also, please don’t judge
the success of your initiatives by the number of comments you get.. those who
are really following it will never find time to post comments…if you daily
follow secure initiative you will notice that a single user do not post answers
consistently for more than 3-4 days. There are some who manage to sustain for 1
week or upto 1 month… but nobody stays there more than that time.. and then
suddenly one day they reappear… they are seasonal birds.. they will be happy
with your new initiatives because they would not have followed ur ongoing
initiaves on a daily basis which is suffering due to the new ones… they migrate
from your 1 initiative to another never realising their foolishness in
following this site… sir.. let me ask you one thing.. are you currently covering
lok sabha or rajya sabha(I mean “big picture” or ”insight”) ? Am asking this
because of my desparation and sense of being fooled… if you do not have time to
post lok sabha insight program on a daily basis… please don’t post it.. cover
atleast big picture programme.. but do that daily for atleast 1 year.. so that
we have clarity in what u are giving us.. so that we can prepare lok sabha
insight programme on our own.. and with that we will be able to follow both
programmes daily and will not miss that any day.. DEAR SIR, IAM REITERATING THAT CONTINUITY,
STABILITY, CLARITY AND PUNCTUALITY MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING… tell us
clearly in the beginning of the year what you can give us on a daily basis…
and show us that u can actually give us that on time… then if u want you may
add 1 or 2 initiatives if u are that desperate to help us… i beg dont stop
those old initiaves… and if possible dont start anything new.. secure 2015, current
    affairs(same day),news analysis video(same day), rajya sabha or loksabha(at
least one,but daily) and then the new daily prelims quiz… please…. please maintain
these initiatives…. please sir… please.. please… am sorry but i said all
these due to my desperation and helplessness… please sir… please….
please… CONTINUITY, SUSTAINABILITY, CLARITY AND PUNCTUALITY… HELP US IN AN
EFFECTIVE MANNER SIR IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP… ATLEAST POST THE ONGOING
YEAR’S SECURE ANSWERS ON THAT SAME DAY … SIR , I REITERATE THAT IT IS A SHAME
THAT U ARE STARTING NEW INITIATIVES WHEN YOU HAVE NO TIME TO CONTINUE THE
PRESENT INITIATIVES… AM NO ONE TO SAY THIS.. AM ONLY A STUDENT…
AND LITERALLY I AM BEGGING…. PLZZZZ SIR… PLEASE…. DON’T MESS THINGS… AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAINTAIN “PUNCTUALITY” FOR GOD’S SAKE..…

    • Unni Kuttan

Well said son bri. vinay sir is doing so many things and not even doing one thing properly. i strongly second what son bri has said. He will soon start a new programme and forget to update old initiatives daily. As son bri said he will never get enough time to do anything properly. Lol.

hi all. I’m comfortable with prelims (objective)questions and I’m new to mains answer writing. I have been going through the secure questions everyday. But I’m unable to answer the questions. I simply have no clue how to get started. My doubt may seem absurd. But I’m really looking for a help in this issue. Could anybody help me?

Hey guys/gals…i have been the part of insight since 6 days .and as per schedule and time i am working toward my goal..writing answers in secure daily…not only me..but many aspirants are continuously putting their efforts daily…but what i observed is that people are writing ,but what use of that writing if not at all recognised by any…so i have one solution or rather say recommendation for this..what i suggest is that every person above or below or both give their feedback of every neighbouring answers..this will enhance cooperation and also motivate people to write…waiting for your feedbacks and any other suggestions if at all..

A request to all aspirants … We have all the rights to critique an answer. But i think we will all agree that the same has to be done within the boundaries of humility and dignity. I encourage difference of opinions as it broadens ones perspective.if you look at my answers i have always accepted my mistakes when i realize one. However i do not support trying to demean or using undignified words just because a person has different opinion. we are likely to be civil servants of the country hence dignity and humility is very important. I have met very good and capable aspirants in this forum and have highest regard for it. But a sudden encounter with a person made me quite upset. I think i speak on behalf of everyone who has faced this at some point during answer writing.. All opinions are welcome rather appreciated, but they should be constructive and dignified

I hope i could express my views clearly. This is not for everyone but only for some people who become abrasive to prove their point.

Cheers and keep writing and reviewing everybody.

    • prabhat cse

      1. read more & more

      2. interlink the subjects like history with geography & other subjects (for ex: cholas were in south – history, today’s state of kerala & tamilnadu – geography, food habits – fish & rice, economy – based on agriculture of rice & fishery as well and as such the habits & culture of people shaped & nourished)
      3. prepare mindmaps
      4. practice more for writing fast, to the point & offcourse with good handwriting
      5. you can add more points striking you from this (& inform me too :))

    hello,

My question is;- The answers which you write for questions posted there, how do you proceed about it
Do you take a paper and a pen and start writing about it whatever comes in your mind regarding the ques ? OR
DO you search and read about that topic and then FRAME the answers accordingly?

    Thanks
