Q5, October 27th (Click Here): An unexpected error while uploading the solutions. Here’s the explanation for the ‘Biosecurity’ measures question –

  • Biosecurity helps protect farms against every disease, not only avian flu.
  • Biosecurity refers mainly to good farm practices.
  • It is a way to avoid contact between animals and microbes.
  • If there are outbreaks of avian flu, stronger measures than in normal times must be taken.

NOTE: Please remind yourselves to read the introduction to the quiz regularly! This is posted everyday, and that’s why, most skip reading it. Somewhat similar to the case of the UPSC syllabus – everyone wants to give the exam but many, and dare we say, most, do not read the syllabus. To quote a part of it here again, “This quiz is intended to introduce you to concepts and certain important facts relevant to UPSC IAS civil services preliminary exam 2016 (read 2017). It is not a test of your knowledge. If you score less, please do not mind. Read again sources provided and try to remember better. Please try to enjoy questions, discuss the concepts and facts they try to test from you and suggest improvements.”

The questions may be tough, because you are likely not to have come across the news – we post questions from multiple sources which includes the BBC, PIB releases and features, PRS Monthly Policy Reviews, Indian Express and the Hindu, among others. We can, if required, frame a hundred questions on a daily basis, because there are so many news sources. That, is not the main idea of this initiative. Neither is this quiz, we repeat, a “test of your knowledge”. With a focus largely on current affairs-based questions, some with a plain General Knowledge motive, and some with a mains perspective, these questions are meant to help you read news (regardless of the number of articles and sources you read from) in an active and not a passive manner. And to a good extent, it is meant to help you improve your knowledge and approach to reading news relevant to and with a focus on the Civil Services Examination (Pre + Mains). You may be disheartened if there’s an article on which you think we may ask a question, but turns out we actually don’t. No big deal. You are the one who gains with the knowledge (so long as it is relevant!). Remember, this quiz is not the UPSC preliminary exam. The next UPSC Preliminary Exam is on 18th June, 2017. Happy quizzing 🙂

The following quiz will have 5-10 MCQs . The questions are mainly framed from The Hindu  and PIB news articles.
